For PvE? The Avenger is better if only because it'll live longer, for PvP though? the escort would rip the Avenger apart as the lack of aft weapons gives it a huge weak spot.

Ive been thinking about that. Ive run the number and correct me if i am wrong but, does the avenger have more alphaing power. Sure the new escort has Five tac consoles and a cmder tac slot, this would allow both BO3 and CRF3 however, that 5th tac console only grant roughly 80 more dps per each DHC and less than that for a DBB. if it were to run 4 fore energy weapons, it would get 320 DPS for that forward console. the avenger on the other hand dont not have a 5th tac console but it does have a 5 forward weapon slot, AND it can mount a cloak to get it First Strike and a 15% bonus to DMG upon decloaking. that 5th weapon slot will give the ship and added 1200-1500 DPS if its a cannon. Now sure, the escort CAN out maneuver the avenger but it is mightly hard to out maneuver what you cant see. Especially when youre dead from and alpha. ganted AT MOST the avenger can only go BO2 and CRF2.

It is important to note the both ships can A2B, but the avenger can tank better. so does that mean in an A2B beam battle, it can take more DPS AND do more DPS because it can put more weapons on target? (8 vs the escort's 7)

this is not true. the avenger only has 3 rear slots. that new escort has 3 rear slots AND the rear gun, so four. but the rear gun only has a 90 degree arc so the avenger would have to be roughly RIGHT behind it..... otherwise, if both ships are running cannon set ups, from a side profile their DPS should be the same.

I still feel like the escort is locked into using phasers for the sake of the rear gun. that means the Avenger who isnt locked into an energy type can run say......AP, and with the AP two piece, which gives more DPS bonus than a 5th console, would at least put them on equal footing Tac console-wise....

The rear cannon works if you run away from a target after an alpha strike. So... not sure if that's a good or bad thing. Need to get one tonight and see.

Isn't the AP 2-piece bonus roughly equalled by using a warp core with the [AMP] property? Or do they come into play at different points in the makes-my-brain-hurt damage formula?

    -Gen

I'm sure your DPS is great, but as Kahless said, "a petaQ with high system mastery is still a petaQ." (Well, he should have said it...!)

I think that AMP effects non energy weapons as well(which is odd) or at least it seems to effect torpedos I haven't checked if it touches boff powers like Gravity well

The Avenger is a far better choice for PvE, and for most people it's a better choice for PvP as well.

The FPE-R is only an excellent choice for PvP, and then only if you had a pre-existing phaser build.

Basing tactics around using the fused weapon is a bad idea as one would lose overall DPS. Cannon boats should just turn to keep firing forward and beam boats should always be broadsiding. Like I said, the fused weapon is only good in PvP where opponents regularly fly into the weapon's firing arc.

You can BO3 with an Avenger, unless you run cannons with the DBB, then it would not be ideal.

At best a good Avenger pilot should get a couple of seconds on the escort pilot if the latter is at all awake because the escort will take advantage of it's superior speed and be out of the 45 degree arc of pain within those opening seconds, then the escort just needs to sit behind the Avenger and fire away until the thing dies.

This is possibly the least important note as A2B on an escort is suicide.
