With our favorite ground event returning shortly, let us review our ground builds and offer advice ahead of time.
I will include some more previous links when i get back home.

Some good advice in this topic as well:

Edit:
So i got my hand on the S31 rifle yesterday. Primary fire mode is effective, but secondary fire mode is imo awkward. When playing FPS you have a target right in front in sight and then suddenly with the secondary firemode you turn away 45 degrees. Opinions?
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

Well even though I have been playing since 2012 unfortunately it's been only off & on. Until this year I been more into it. So this is the first time I'll be playing this event and I'm actually worry I'm not going to do very well. So I been trying to read as much as I possibly can on the event. Especially because I'm just 250 coupons shy of my free ship! For some reason sometimes I have a hard time on ground battles. I guess I should start practicing. Another thing is I have never played in an actual team. Not because I haven't want too, but the opportunity has never come up. Also I have 3 friends and we have never played in a team together or talked and my fleet is MIA lol. So yeah any advice anyone is able to give me is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

The STO leagues webpage has a good guide for the sompek map. Especially what gear can be used. :)

I put my captain in the Dyson ground set to try it out. I like the energy dampening affect of the armor and maybe the proton weapon will get some damage done. He's a engi so I've also given him a sabotage kit module as I heard that might come in handy.

Also gonna carry the Thompson as his other weapon.

The key to going a long way on sompek with pick up group is to confirm at the start if there are any players in the group planning to do 5-rounds-and-done (minimum effort to get event token). Its hard to get into high rounds if part of team keeps suiciding and refusing to rez. Sometimes I have a pug that will go 50+ rounds but its really pot luck unless you build your own team.

The date is wrong. They said it started 4 days ago. It'll start coming Thursday.

well, according to the post this wont work for the ftfo run. You have to run all 7 waves(thats it for the ftfo) Could still be a problem with the "infinite" ones though...

According to the new post for sompek, it now starts in the "past" since they probably typo'ed and wrote it starts on 1st of August but the ingame calendar is correct

I think mr Kael abused time travel :p

revised arena for featured is only finish round 7... so if your going for the daily token, you only need to do this once. the unlimited and timed version opens up after you do the featured arena version first.

And there's no fail condition in the revised one if everyone 'dies'. I like this for the reward token.

So Five and Die isn't needed if you only need to complete seven rounds for the token.

IOW, 5-and-die (or rather 7) becomes the only option for the event.

So much for people saying that's not the intended way to get the token. :D

I think it shows that Cryptic pays attention to how people play it.

I actually like the short version for getting the reward token. After that, people have the option to see how far they can go without having to worry about people who don't.

As for build, I'm rather fond of the Engineer "Drone Master" setup. Combine a bunch of drones with things like the Shard of Possibilities and Furiadon summon... you got your own personal army helping you fight in Sompek.

    From the Devs?

Once the Event has ended, the above version of the TFO will become disabled and an “Infinite” version of Arena of Sompek will become available in its place. This scaling challenge allows the boldest captains to test their mettle against unending waves of enemies at ever-increasing difficulties. Prizes for this version remain unchanged from those previously available on the “Untimed” version of Arena of Sompek.

This will definitely encourage people NOT to play AoS. Also, what does the EVENT ends mean?
I like the shinies but usually do AoS for the "challenge". Where is the challenge now? Do we need to wait for another timegate to be triggered in order for anyone to do the untimed version. This information is confusing and badly designed.

Why break it and not just give folks a choice to opt for either short vs untimed version at the same time? Another letdown on what some of us found it FUN.

What happens is once you do the event for the token, then the timed version and infinite versions unlock to play. You only need to play the short version to get the tokens, then the longer versions can be played for the challenge.

Ehm, that's not what it says.
There will no longer be a “Timed” and “Untimed” version of the TFO.

While the Event is active, only one version of the TFO will be accessible. This version of the Arena of Sompek automatically completes upon defeating the first mini-boss at Wave 7, at which point all related rewards will be granted and the operation is considered complete, and no additional waves will spawn. You must complete Wave 7 to earn your Featured TFO Commendation and Coupon Progress Tokens.

The event will simply be only max-wave-7 maps of Sompek. After the event is over (so after three weeks) you can play the old version and try to get as far as possible…

Which basically means that the full event will be unavailable when it is supposed to be featured...

It looks like we'll have to wait for the event to be over indeed. After the event is over (three weeks after coming Thursday) we will be able to play the full mission that was supposed to be a featured event when it wasn't.

Don't ask me how any of this is logical or why this 'solution' was necessary when a limited version of the map was already available for those who wanted to quickly gather the tokens.

I logged on on my Vulcan toon and he had no idea either.

IC misread then... so only 7 round event during this time period. after featured event is over... it will be the regular timed/untimed que.

This does prevent 5-and-quitters from joining the unlimited version and messing it up for the dedicated players.

During the event: everyone gets easy mode, no choice (bad) but no wrong choice (good).

After the event: queue empties out and a few dedicated players test their mettle.

They should probably keep it out of the random TFO list, so people not prepared for it aren't lumped in with the ones going for 100.

Add to that, this run only requires players to complete round 7, and after that round it's game over.

Oh yes, it's definitely an improvement. As long as they're giving all the (worthwhile) rewards at wave X, it might as well stop after that. Beats having to lose on purpose.

Personally I would rather prefer they'd properly reward trying your best and going the distance (both during and after the event), but yeah..."too hard."

The point is, though, that players already had the option of using the short version while others could choose the option to go as far as possible.

Now that won't be possible when the event and the mission should be available as they specifically call it a 'featured' TFO. Instead, everyone will be forced to play the short version.

Cryptic may be paying attention to how people play it, but that is no reason to only give in to those who only want the easy stuff and remove the possibility for others to actually play the full mission during the event.

This mission was supposed to be some sort of no-win-scenario. Even Starbase Incursion as an event would be more challenging after this change however. It's fine that they make an easier version available during the event, but that's no excuse to remove the original version.

Thanks for the additional clarification. Even though I do not really understand why it wasn't clear for everyone.

I'm still wondering why they're doing it this way though. Giving players fewer options is almost never a good idea.

Forget about options, they just want to get people through the bloody thing as soon as they can. Same that they did with the 'Into the Breach' Event. The Event version was deliberately made shorter than the normal TFO.

People complained about grinding Events, well they are cutting down the grind.

People are missing the important point, after the Featured TFO run, Sompek will become a regular TFO that can be run anytime. Then all the Accolades and strutting can be done anytime for those so inclined.

Just hope that the Event version, will be modified to unlock the Emote at 7 rather than 22.
