Do I need to buy a ship

Hi. I'm a fleet admiral. I got my free Galaxy cruiser, which I believe is tier 5? Now I am struggling with missions. A lot of my equipment is mk12, mk13 and mk14 of varying quality. Often blue or purple. I can't afford admiral or fleet admiral equipment on the exchange. I am on the mission regarding the Bajoran Orb. I got to the mirror universe and was fine destroying the initial wave. But now I am against the cruisers and they destroy me within 10 seconds. Do I need to buy a Tier 6 ship? Thanks.

Hello.

The game gets difficult in the later stages so when you start to play there are a few “build” aspects to consider when you try to beat stuff. With build I mean your the most helpful gear and boff ability selections which are much (!) more important than the actual ship you fly.

Try out the following stuff:

1) Weapons: Select 1 “type” of weapon only and use it for all slots then. For example all beams and what’s most important all beams of the same energy type! (if u like try to equip all phaser beams for example)
2) Tac consoles: All energy types have respective tac consoles. In case of phaser get all tac consoles as phaser relays.
3) Boff powers when no means of CD reduction available: Try to use tac team (2 times) and if u use all beams Fire at Will (2 times). For engineering Emergancy Power to Weapons (2 times) Try to use remaining engendering and sci abilities as healing. Hazard Emitters (2 times) Aux2Structural (2 times) and perhaps Transfer shield strength (2 times). Always hit them when they become available.
4) Set Weapon power to max

Today starts Risa Event. Please do the daily "fly high" there for the next weeks to get a probably very good T6 ship for free.

I would recommend you check out some of the DPS league cheap DPS Builds. These builds are very effective and use mostly gear that can be obtained from mission rewards. If you see a build that interests you but don't understand how it works, you can ask over there.. or right here and we can help you out.

The suggestion to do the Risa Event is a good one, you can get a pretty nice T6 ship for free for doing an easy 5 min of work per day for a few weeks. Hard to beat that deal.

The Galaxy you have is also upgradeable to T5U with a token from the exchange or z-store. They won't gain a T6 trait, but will have the four other level-ups.

Build towards your game style, your career (TACT, ENGG, SCI), build off of that..Universally try and get to 24 points in Tact at least on the skill tree..After finsihing your 48 points in the skill tree tune your ship by seeing what consoles can improve the output of the ship like for example, EPG for SCI, AUX for ENG and Damage, for Tact..Stuff like that..Finish up your Intel, Strategist, Pilot trees..Once reps are unlocked, get down to finishing them to unlock the gear, some of which are decent..

As for EC there are plenty of ways to gather some, the easiest being Tour the Galaxy from Yin...There are a few consoles below 1M depending on the weapons you are using..I use phasers so managed to pick some consoles costing around 400k each..

Upgrading to 5u should be enough! If you want to go a little further you can get fleet ship of your tier 5 galaxy.

Also, don't forget to do the Summer event on Risa to unlock that free ship.

IMO, unless you are building a dedicated tank, the galaxy is not a great ship. I won't fly a ship that does not have at lease one Lcdr tac spot. buying a patrol escort I think they are around 60K dil would fit the bill unless you are set on being a cruiser captain

+1 on the Duty Officers and + 100 on your Bridge crew. I'm still rock'n the original crew; Flores, Kofez, etc... and they're pretty good at their jobs. Also, use tactics compliant with your vessel's loadout and role. For example, I command a Manticore and with multiple opponents I stay in defensive-mode and wear the enemy(s) shields down with tachyon inversion beam and tachyon beam, then I bring her about and launch torpedo spread and watch the magic happen ..

Depends on what you mean by 'buy'. There are plenty of Rare T5 ships on the Exchange for 4-5M EC. They give some good variety for much less. Plus some of the Mirror Universe setups I prefer vs the normal boff seating.

If you are sticking with your Galaxy, just upgrade the weapons and stuff.
Timberwolf did a ton of budget builds and shows what dps he gets out of them.
