Question about Veteran Status

So I may be dumb, but I've played STO for many years now. To be a veteran player do I just need to have played for several days or do I have to have a paid subscription and have played for so many days. I'm just a little confused on the subject so don't start typing a bunch of hate mail.

    To become a veteran player you have to have either been a paying subscriber for 700 days, or buy a lifetime subscription.

    Since monthly subscriptions no longer exist, the only way to get veteran rewards is to purchase a life time subscription.
