arkif/arkala viability

So im recently returning, last time i played sto was when romulans were first added to the game. Back then, i leveled a rom-fed sci character and bought the arkif/arkala ships/variants, and i loved the combat mode and singularity beam, and the addition of a hangar bay later on. Problem is, when i got into endgame pve/stfs, thr mogai/valdore was waaaaay ahead of the arkif/arkala in terms of survivability and dps.

Has anything regarding that changed? Im doing a rom-kdf character now to re-learn the game and really wanting to go with the arkif/arkala again.

As with most things, it just depends on what you want to do and what you want to use.

The Arkif is still a great little attack ship in my book; especially if you enjoy the HEC playstyle. If you want to run Annihilation Mode, just be mindful of the tradeoff; the power shunt will soften your defenses, but it will help keep your weapon power topped off when you need to burn down priority targets.

Edit: As a sidenote, since you're KDF-Rom, I'd suggest Orion Interceptors with it if you've got them. Their speed, interdiction beam and general point defense capacity syngerize very nicely if you run cannons on the Arkif.

Huh, i wasnt aware i could use them. Back when i played last romulans didn't have access to allied ships. Guess the change applied to carrier pets too.

What do you mean but HEC playstyle? Im a bit rusty on abbreviations here.

Also, running an engineering captain, which should help offset survivability issues.

Ooooh man! You may not have known this..
So...As a Rom Sci player,We have some nice ROMULAN science ships in game now.Multimission Warbirds (has hangar), Laeosa and the T5U Dyson Science Destroyers all ROCK on a sci toon doing Science DPS.

You get 40 epg points from the temporal deflector..and some discounts on certain ships Space traits and equipment not availible as it was only a KDF or Fed ship

This screen shot I used is on my kdf rom..One of the space traits and console it has is on the exchange for not much Ec (few Mill). Its a super expensive ship and console for a Fed-Rom.

Right, but my KDF-rom is engineering, not science =P It's my fed rom that's the science career path, though he does really well in the valdore setup.

My Fed rom is an Engineering toon. That one ALSO flys a Romulan Science Warbird. :P..I actually have a 800 Drain X build on that toon as the LVL 64 trait scales with DrainX.

Roms have always had access to their allied faction's pets. That said, Orion Interceptors do require ownership of the Orion Dacoit(T3/1k Zen) C-Store ship.

A HEC is a Heavy Escort Carrier; an escort that trades some turn rating for a hangar bay, basically. It's a relatively standardized ship type that every faction has access to in some form. As far as piloting goes, they generally handle closer to a Destroyer(similar to the Mogai) or Science Vessel than a pure Escort. With the addition of the pets, I find that I tend to be a bit more methodical with target selection when using them as well.

Go ahead and play with the Arkif. Get the Jhu'ael T6 variant, fleet ship that, try out the console set bonus w/ the quad cannons.
