First off, its stupid that we even have to grind traits on C-store ships once we buy them... -_- But I have been slugging at a single trait for an hour now... Has something changed? Something been nerfed to make the grind even more soul bleeding?
That's why I don't buy any C-Store ships which are locked to the your faction, and *require* Starship Mastery Level 6 in order to unlock the ship for account-wide use. eg: Jem'Hadar Ship Mastery Level 6 prevents you from using this account-wide.
Basically Reaching Ship Mastery Level 5 or Level 6 is a "bonus" to me;
too much grinding for marginal gains.

No, they didn´t changed it. And thats the problem.
Full XP on 65, below 65 its way less then you got with the old cap. Missing Red Alerts take their part in it too.
Really annoying to level traits these days...
Head to delta quadrant and do Argala patrol 4/5, leave and restart.
If its not the kazon you may want to leave sooner because they always seem to give the best xp despite being pathetically weak.
Should get you to t5 pretty fast. For vanguard ships hitting that 6th rank is longer due to inflated xp gains between 5 and 6 but offset slightly by the fact you only need to hit 6 once per ship per account.
On a related note, does anyone know what determines if a trait is account shareable? I just recently found that I had a scattering of starship traits on account reclaim

It has to be a trait for a starship from one faction that does not have an equivalent ship for another faction. Those are pretty few, and fewer now that faction T6 ships are available to Romulans and Jem'Hadar.

It has to be a trait not 'purchaseable' or tradeable by any other means to that faction.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.
do the lukari space que in advanced... the gravity one. no time limit. just keep shooting ships and getting one shot by the battleships. I went from T0 to T5 and got my ship mastery.
I was actually thinking they might have made it easier...i just leveled three ships last night in just a couple hours
Don't let them promote you. Don't let them transfer you. Don't let them do anything that takes you off the bridge of that ship, because while you're there... you can make a difference.

How did you do it? If I could get a ship/hour, that would be a good rate.
If you have the DPS Argala 4/5 waves played on advanced will level you in less than 30 mins and should take about 6 runs.
Hello rubber banding my old friend, time to bounce around the battlezone again, where are all my bug reports going?, out of love with this game I am falling, As Cryptic fail to acknowledge a problem exists, Shakes an angry fist, And from Support all I'm hearing are the sounds of silence.
Since they made it that you couldn't start Starbase 24 solo, that was taken away.
Actually, when the Red Alerts became PVE Queues they lost a bunch of their Ship Mastery XP as well.
