Added XP Weekend to September 27 – October 1.

    Really?

We need an Upgrade Weekend bad.. what's the deal?

Not that I don't appreciate things like XP and Marks weekends because I do, but it's been forever since we have had an Upgrade Weekend. The Dilithium Exchange rate is way up, we need things like Upgrade or Phoenix Box promos (or both.)

Please, no more Shuttle Weekends, Duty Officer Weekends, XP Weekends etc.. can we please get what we actually need?

It seems a little early for another xp weekend, although I do have one remaining character who needs to level.

8.5hrs? You really need to have more than 4 bullet points in the Patch Notes to justify that much time! ;) Come on! Toss in some technobabble like a proper Trekkie!

    Descale the Herring?

Is tomorrow's maintenance in place of, or in addition to a Thursday maintenance?

As far as I understand it, yes.

    Next question:

Is the external xmpp interface producing a 'temporary authentication failure' for anybody else?

I'm pretty sure it was stated that there will be no maintenance on thursday this week.

They really ought to rename this game maintenance online. Honestly never encountered a game down for so long in a day.

How am I supposed to do my breach when the servers are down? Seriously? I have to work too...

That is certainly a lot of maintenance for only a few items. Perhaps setting up for the Discovery introduction?

There are certainly alot more problems than your listing, I hope there being looked into.

As was said before, this is mainly network maintenance. I was surprised to see patchnotes at all. And one point in the patch notes was that the breach event is extended for one more day.
Do I like the servers being down on one of the few days I can play? Hell, no. But I appreciate them working on their hardware, so I won't complain too much about my rotten luck.

There's actual server hardware upgrades going on as well. This isn't just a patch push.

That's 2 maintenances 2 days in a row. And on Thursday there is usually one too. This really cuts in our playing time in Europe, which means 2 days lost for the Breach Event.

Try doing a shard maintenance during US time for a change, Cryptic.

I'm cool with the downtime.. if it improves the overall game experience then I can be patient for one day.. not a big deal.

My patience for the lack of an upgrade weekend however.. that's another story.

Something funny happened on the way to the game. Like discovering it was down, and then going to the forum. Don't know if we have a story here, maybe in the future. ;-)

All this downtime for just that small patch...... wow your servers are bad lol, will you ever fix the timeouts etc or make us wait another 9years?
  • ghostdelta#5188 ghostdelta Member Posts: 1 New User
My question is why wasn't this dealt with on the regular Thursday maintenance / patch? That days expected - and planned around (like flipping colony projects). I wake up to flip projects and head back to bed to see this. The time this is doing to delay that entire cycle is is a royal pain. Is another waiting till I can restart them tonight a HUGE deal? No - but waking up to do it and getting the servers are down is a Pain the posterior, headed back to bed now. BLARGH!!!!

These maintenances are primarily for Server Hardware upgrading, and have been happening for a month or so. It's nothing to do with incompetence and it's the parent company PWE, not Cryptic doing this. Thursday Maint is usually Cryptic's maintenance and patch day.

This is an FCT. They are doing it at 5am their time, and it's the quietest time of the day to do so.

Dont confuse software updating w hardware updating... u wanna boost ure servers, u need to stuff new gear in them sometimes.. and that doesnt take 1-2 or 4 hours.. that can take days depending on what and how much ure updating... new motherboard, new harddiscs... u dont just jam it in, update a few drivers, and be done w it... the most time-consuming is prior and after, making sure everything is backed up, and documented, then checked out afterwards, so the server dont decide to reboot for no apperant reason at all etc.. throw away security, etc.. then there is updaing documentation, rights.. and if there is an error.. or serverel.. incompabilities, lack of drivers, software.. a faulty component.. then all hell is loose.. similar for network maintance.. is it just network drivers on the servers.. is it the entire set of routers and switches getting a new patch.. etc etc... if u think it takes time to update a PC with a single Windows 7/8/10 update, or a step up.. installing a new computer, u should try a server... its not easy, and its not fast... and i much prefer, they spend two days, and do it properly the first time, then spend 30 min, and then we suffer for 6 months as they scramble to fix all the bugs, and errors, and other fun things appearing.. in the end loosing way more time then if it was done right first time... i dont know what they update/upgrade.. but inconveince imo doesnt matter.. rather - use the time it take, do it properly, and we can all enjoy the better endresult even if it may or may not be instantly apperant...

Regarding the marks event, i would like a upgrade weekend too.. soon.. buuut.. good side ? - if we getting T6 Rep, we gonna need alot more marks... marks-event.. excellent.. marks to harvest for later... we prolly gonna need them.. or spend months grinding...

Well, either someone can't math, or the folks who post here on the forums and those in charge of the launcher don't speak with each other. I can't say which it is, but in this thread we are told the maintenance will be 8.5 hours, yet on the launcher it says maintenance will be between the hours of 5am and 2:30pm. That is 9.5 hours, not 8.5.

So, I will take the longer of those two times as the more accurate, add a couple hours on top of that since these things seem to go longer than planned and will not expect to get into the game until 4:30pm, Cryptic time. I mean, let's be honest, the maintenance yesterday was meant to only be 3 hours, but ended up taking over 7.

If the game is back up before then, great, wonderful, happy day! If not, I'm prepared to not be able to play at all today, since 4:30pm Cryptic time would be just half an hour before I need to start dinner. Far too late to do my daily stuff and playing for only half an hour seems kind of a waste.

My question is why wasn't this dealt with on the regular Thursday maintenance / patch?

The answer to your question is, that this is network maintenance/hardware upgrade. They only patched in what they've got, to not bring down the game again tomorrow.
I know, it's hard to get all the info here on the official forums, because nobody's posting it at one place as a reference, as the CM on the Neverwinter forums did.
There was that moment, during a meeting at my job, a few years ago now, when somebody finally got the solution for our problem, and told the respective people to "do your f***ing job!" Sometimes I'm tempted to say that to our Community Manager, of course, I would phrase it much more politely.

Why need such a rediculous amount of time for what, 100mb of coding?

    Thank you for your response.
However, in all honesty, these situations are far from professional.
If I were to do this in a company, I'd be fired before even thinking of pulling this off.
Were I in charge, I ran a second server, upgrading that one, switch it on, test it, and when it runs as it should be take the prime server down and upgrade that.

    But that would be me.

Not sure why people don't get this but..

There was scheduled hardware maintenance today..

There was a normal downtime that occurs on Thursday for the patch..

Instead of doing them separate and having 2 downtimes, they're doing the Thursday Patch after the hardware maintenance today and there is no downtime tomorrow.

So it's not 9 hours to apply the patch.. it's more like 7 hours to work on the servers and then 1.5-2 hrs for the software updates.

I have no idea why people think that the patch is the only thing being done in the 9 hr down time, but frankly.. that's just silly.
