crashed to desktop just sitting in sherman system

I was playing star trek online tonight, just finished my dailies(dilithium refining) up and had to reference something on google chrome, and the game window just disappeared from the taskbar, and its still in the active processes list...
I tried launching it in 32 bit mode, and it promptly crashed again.
this has been happening since three game patches ago.
can anyone help?
