Funny thing... I have the T5 Excelsior, and I was able to make a rather fun Gaseous Anomaly build. Pretty much every gas venting ability I could fit on her. Did alright in the old Na'kuhl alerts. Was mostly a bit of a joke build but surpisingly it worked. Also had a full set of Dominion Polaron beams too.
STO should be fun. If you are having fun, you are doing it right.

The Advanced Heavy Cruiser Retrofit and the Resolute are not good platforms for "Gaseous Anomaly" builds since they both have only 2 science console slots (most "gaseous" powers and consoles scale with part-gens). Whatever builds you put on them would be more effective on many ships with 3 or more science console slots.

No one is saying you cannot complete content with the Resolute. No one is saying you cannot use the Resolute in a build. The issue is, the Resolute is so poorly arranged that whatever you do with would be more effective on pretty much any other ship. It is a jack of 3 trades and master of none. It is a disappointment and it is old content that will never receive any update, which makes it worse.

Even if they re-release the Resolute with a new BOff layout, it will signal the end times, right alongside playable Borg vessels and [T6] versions of the Vor'cha and Nova.

It wasn't meant to be a high end build anyways. And I think I filled those science stations with Theta Radiation and Metreon.

Oh the Resolute is second from the top of the ugly pile due to being a refit of number one (the E*******r, of which we do not speak its name).

Followed by the bloated-space-spoon as starred in TNG which is in turn followed by the stunted-space-spoon as seen in VGR.

The bottom of the ugly pile is propped up by the Command Cruisers due to them being E*******r's with an extra set of nacelles.

Only slightly less detestable than the E*******r and its derivatives and the spoons are the Miracle Worker ships.

Oh, and the Envoy and Celestial bloated-space-spoon refits are hideous beyond belief as well. (The Monarch, Andromeda, and Venture are, however, bearable.)

Every other Starfleet ship ingame is tolerable even if I don't like the aesthetics personally (the Ranger for example) but the ones listed above are abominations to all that is holy and unholy.

Before we had "cruiser commands", Battlecruisers were paying to prices:

    1. high crew count-which was NOT an advantage, since it slowed your repair rate. Cryptic 'fixed' the 'bug' in that when they rolled out the Scimitar. How it worked was, you took damage to crew from hull hits as a percentage-and recovered from damage based on crew recovery-at a fixed rate. means that a Torp hit that kills 12 people on a Bird of Prey would kill 350 people on a Negh'var, but you only get back five at a time. Starfleet ships therefore, having lower crew counts, recovered from damage faster, and were less vulnerable to critical hits, since the time between waves in pvE was always enough for Starfleet ships to recover to full, but not long enough for KDF ships of equivalent size to recover.
Yeah, the crew mechanic sucked big time. Though in my personal experience, every ship I flew tended to spend more time at 0 than full crew, no matter what. Good riddance.
    2. one less item slot. Batteries, red matter capacitors, turret sats, you name it, consumables. Starfleet cruisers got one more than KDF battlecruisers.
The Borts all have 4 device slots, the maximum.
in addition, KDF ships from the era the Bort was released, took a hit to shield strength that wasn't really made up for by hull strength (when your difference in hulls is 1 torpedo hit, but your difference in shields is a whole salvo.)
One torpedo to the hull does about the same damage as a whole salvo at the shields, because of the damage reduction. I do have to admit I didn't play the game when the Borts were released, if it was different then.
so, when the Bortasque at T5 was released, it was a ship that could not use it's primary faction weapons, because it could not get in and hit with them...but other BATTLECRUISERS could.
Which is the point. People made up that weakness by insisting on "primary faction weapons" or whatever you want to call it. The game specifies no such thing.

It's the same as people complaining tac/eng/sci "have to" fly an escort/cruiser/science vessel. There is no such requirement.
Thing about PvP is, loitering along slowly, on a fixed course, firing one, maybe two available beams once in a while on a timer, doesn't happen, your targets try not to get hit, and then, they hit you back.
What does "one, maybe two available beams once in a while on a timer" even mean? It has 4/4 weapon slots and beams placed there do work exactly as they do in every other ship.
Battlecruisers already had their balancing drawback, the Bortasque was built intentionally to suck...because it didn't have any of the graces those penalties paid for,and no relief ON those penalties. It got a 'cloak' that was deliberately sabotaged to be ineffective, for example. (it still strips your sheilds and freezes your weapons, but yeah, they can see you, and target you, before you get in range, just by setting aux to 50, which is the default all ships started with. some cloak...and it's in the writeup for the ship, so it's not a bug.) It hasn't the turn rate to be as good a beam-boat as the Oddy (corrected on the T6 version, admittedly), and if you don't have the turn for a beam boat, then you're hopeless for cannons.
So it's a bit on the slow side. Not exceptionally slow by any means. Nobody cried about the D'deridex Retrofit being "built intentionally to suck" it has the same 5.5 turn as the T5 Borts. The T6 D'D has a 5! I certainly wouldn't put dual cannons to any of these, except as a joke. But for beams, meh, 360 degree coverage what do I care which way I'm facing.

And it not being good for PvP in the age of "Escorts Online," not exactly surprising.
the consoles...didn't work. don't work. still don't work, don't work with any usefulness (the "grate big kannon" fires a scatter that misses all but the most stationary targets while dropping your engine power. the 'tractor' console plants them-right in time for you to fly past unless you want to be stationary for the incoming fire. the Hoh'sus pet flies away and doesn't come back, or blows up, or only attacks with its sole rear turret, before blowing up or flying away not to return.)
Gimmick consoles being worthless is very common in STO, especially the old ones before they started adding passive stat bonuses to them.

D'D with a single cannon/turret build is awesome. It also works with DC/DHC, but it needs a few consoles to up the turn rate.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

Ok guys... if you want to debate the Bortasqu to death... probably should make another thread before a Mod comes in.

Also... turn rate might not be as much of a problem with one of the Competative Rep Impulse Engines. From what I've seen... one of them jacks up turn rate like CRAZY when you use a hull heal. Even a Bort may very well turn on a dime while one of those is equipped.

The thread is "what ships do you not like?". Explaining why you don't like the Bortas line of ships is perfectly in line with the thread topic.

Having said that, I think @patrickngo is wasting his time since @warpangel does not subscribe to the idea of "faction identity", which is a motivating factor of @patrickngo 's issue with the Bortas-line. The erosion of "faction identity" by giving the KDF a Starfleet Cruiser for a Flagship rather than a more Klingon design.

The fleet D'Deridex isn't too bad since you can stack a decent amount of tac boff powers on it. It'll never be a great ship, though, with it's weak turn rate and bleh 4/4 weapons. Still, it kicks the living daylights out of a useless Samsar and a nearly useless Resolute. It even wrecks a T6 "equivalent" Galaxy. He.ll, it even curb stomps a T6 Sovereign, one of the most disappointing FED T6 ships of all time after the Resolute.

The T6 Bortasqus crush the Resolute. It's not even close.

I totally agree, but they seem to be about the same level of popularity.

I can't remember the last time I have seen either one of them in game.
I see a lot more Excelsior variants but that's almost certainly because of Federation population. Ship popularity isn't necessarily indicative of how good a ship is.

Another example of this is the Galaxy. I see tons of Galaxy ships flying around but the Galaxy isn't a great ship at all. It's barely better than the T6 Excelsior but it's popular because it's a Galaxy.

The Galaxy class is also the only Fed cruiser available for free at level 61so a lot of people get it then. There probably should be even more of the things running around than there are now, but an unupgraded T5u is not enough of a step up from a regular T5 for a lot of people to give up the look and build flexibility from the wider selection of T5s you get at level 40.

I know the T5u Galaxy is probably not the one you are referring to exactly but the hulls look the same.

Nobody who willingly puts the Yeager-type in their signature can be considered a sound judge of aesthetics.

The Yeager is not so bad, the idea of using a heavily armored merchant ship for a secondary hull even has a quirky RP appeal to it. Also, setting the knowlege that it is two ships bolted together aside for the moment, its lines are not any worse than some of the busier designs, in fact it is less silly looking than the space steamer Kar'Fi (not that silly looks harm the battle carrier any, it is a nice ship) or the Federation's own ice skate in space the Deep Space Science Vessel (which is also not a bad ship).

I wish the devs would make a T5u Yeager as a slightly lighter and much more maneuverable alternative to the Galaxy at level 61.

    D'Derpidex?

i have the T6 fleet version. it has been forever since i used it last, but just going by what i remember, the thing has potential to be a real mean machine, i even dare say it competes with my T'laru for the role of "most powerful ship in MY fleet"

Hey that Samsar is the best ship in the game when you want a cruiser that grabs enemy ships with the Nacelles and eats their bridges. "Brrraaaaaiiiinnnzzzzz!"

I doubt it can curbstomp a T6 Sovy that's well built.

I honestly didn't think Zombie when I FIRST saw the Samsar. I actually thought that the hull kinda reminded me of a Xenomorph head for some dumb reason.

Strip the nacelles and conning tower off and paint it black... Its kinda menacing.

The Samsar made me think of the Venator-class Star Destroyer.

The Yeager doesn't make a lick of sense as a design. Ex Astris Scientia explains it in more detail but the upshot is, for the effort and resource expenditure you'd go to in mating parts of vastly different ships in vastly different sizes, you could build a normal starship and have considerably less trouble keeping it running. I've handwaved the Curry and Raging Queen as armored transports (and the components are at least of similar sizes), but the Yeager is a fugly mess.

No it's not even debatable. The Intel Sovereign's T6 "universal" boff seat gives you 2 poor choices. The first is to use science which is the default choice since it has zero science boff abilities otherwise. While doing so is the obvious choice, you end up with a mostly useless lieutenan commander sci boff slot UNLESS you run OSS3. Otherwise it's useless since the ship doesn't have a secondary deflector. The second poor choice you have is to run a 3rd tac slot. While this might be tempting and gives you good firepower, it leaves the ship exposed since it wouldn't be able to get hazard emitters or any other clearing abilities. Let's not even mention the absolutely terrible choice of slotting a 3rd engineering boff. With this ship, you must pick science for the universal slot. It's usually best IMO to run OSS3 and two sci powers. The Sovereign also has a crappy lieutenant engineering slot to go with it's commander engineering slot. 6 engineering boff powers is too many and you end up with a lot of wasted potential.

The T6 D'deridex has a "universal" lieutenant slot in which the only good choice is to go tac. This gives you a total of 3 tac stations, Lt. Comm, Lieutenant and Ensign. A total of 6 tac boff powers which is superior to the Sovereign's weak slotting of only 4 tac boff powers. The D'Deridex also gives you 4 engineering boff powers which is pretty much optimal and less wasteful than the Sovereign's unnecessary 6 engineering boff powers. Both ships end up having 3 science boff powers with the Intel Sovereign having access to the awesome ability of OSS3. Having OSS3 is the only nice thing about the Intel Sovereign in my opinion. But I'd rather have access to the 6 tac boff slots over OSS3 which will be wasted on a ship that only has 4 tac boff powers.

The T6 D'Deridex is the superior ship and it isn't even close. The above information doesn't even mention having battle cloak without using a horrific 3 piece set. Also, it goes without saying that the pilot is the most important aspect of whether one ship would defeat another.

"it even curb stomps a T6 Sovereign" I am sorry but that one made me laugh. :')

Except for the Samsar there is not even one ship which I would rather use the D'Deridex over at all.
You'd rather use the absolute worst FED T6 ship in the game over an average Romulan ship? Ok. The Resolute is terrible, almost as bad as the Samsar but we've already beat that horse to death. There are other ships that I also don't like as far as Romulans are concerned. Starting with the Aelahl. Looks like trash, has a junk lieutenant intel/sci slot. Too many engineering boff powers. Total waste of a ship. The Romulan science ship is pretty trash too. Whatever the Romulan version of the Nebula/Naj'Sov is called.
