Exactly, pushing the promo bug ship as the way of unlocking a PET is just another way of trying to promote escorts and a lot of players find that playstyle pretty dull and boring.
I'm neither going to gamble nor give in to some exchange gouger for a hangar pet.

With that obligatory statement out of the way, it honestly doesn't bother me nor is it surprising it didn't unlock frigate pets. Most of the frigate pets are already locked behind a grind wall of sorts and these are no different. I would've been more surprised if they did unlock the frigates for the dreads. I've yet to see any of the free leveling ships unlock the equivalent of a premium tier reward and this is no different. it may not be the t5u bug ship that comes with all the fancy bells and whistles, but its still a bug ship for those that may want one and otherwise have never had a chance to fly one. I have to agree, a free bug ship is good for a starting vessel. What I would like for them to do is put the old bug ship into the big ship pack so that those who bought that could get the frigate pets, its a nice compromise that way. People who just want the bug on 1 toon could still get it from the phoenix box, those who bought the big pack could get it account wide, and those who just wanted something like it to fly get the free version, and those who want the T6 still can get it from promos. Everyone is happy that way.

You are correct that it will have more than the free Sovereign. The free Sovereign was simply the closest comparison I could think to draw.

Here's my question, will the bug and it's other variants get access to the new Jem'Hadar hull material? Not crazy about the new designs, but I do like that material.

I have to say, as someone who has both the T5 Jem'Hadar Attack Ship on my FED, and T6 Strike Ship on my Romulan, the free T5-U bugship is the real deal. Minus the pets (which is fair) I'm sure that everyone will be very happy with this ship.
Fortunately, I've been saving a UR token for a bit. It will come in handy for my upcoming Jem'hadar char.

I don't feel like I can complain, I got a SheShar on my main back when the exchange limit was 500mil, I paid 495mil. That is my Grail Ship on my main. The Paradox pleases me plenty on my Gorn. As for my Character who has the t5u Jem HEC & JHDC, I only bothered to get the updated T6 Jem HEC. By far my Favorite Escort Carrier in the game.
The She'Shar, Paradox, and Xindi-Aquatic Dreadnought Carriers are all ships I prefer over the JHDC and not simply because the Frigates are much easier to unlock.

I am sorta baffled at how quickly each person is saying how they deserve something they don't have, yet not a single person has come up with a compromise to weigh out the fact that there are players out there that have the bug ship and paid for it or grinded for it or had the luck to get it from the phoenix pack.
While everyone is yelling out "I deserve what i do not own nor worked for." Why is no one saying "Hey look, we want this, and the players that already own it they should get that." Instead of crying and complaining over a free meal.

From how i read this tread it seems like most of you are just ignoring those facts. One it's free. Two you didn't do anything to gain it other then exist, and three you're selfishly trying to step over other players to get what you believe you deserve from cryptic and to hell with the other people who played by the rules. It's a bit lame when it doesn't unlock pets, though; but if it's for the free, so-called Jem'Haderp, then it's fair. Pay'Hadars should get the ship that unlocks the pets, IMHO.
pay'hadar? oh you mean the 20.00 thing? Curious as to why 20.00 should also get you a lock box ship perk when you already are receiving 1-2 t6 ships 3 jem hadar boff's, a outfit, a title and other stuff.
At what point does it become excessive? I mean even one ship just one ship in the c-store is 30.00 and it drops to 24.00 during events. One ship... yet players should receive all that plus more for 20.00?

No free ship you get from leveling has ever unlocked what amounts to a premium tier reward, and this expansion is no different. expecting the free bug ship to unlock the frigate pets is like expecting the free Sovereign to unlock the Wide Angle Quantum Torpedo, or the free Defiant to come with Phaser Quad Cannons. Barring an extreme change of course I don't see that changing anytime soon. I've been testing a good bit on Tribble since it came up to find bugs and in doing so have used that t5u bug for most of it. It easily keeps up with the premium escorts I own with no issues. Considering they're giving a t5u ship, which would normally cost at least 700 zen or whatever the current rate is for upgrade tokens, it's not like they're giving you guys nothing for simply creating the toon.
Plus there's the 2 individual reputations they give you that are completed to Tier 5 which is at least 20-40 days of time depending on if you have the sponsorship. There's also the 3 R&D schools they give at level 15 for free, a fully completed 30 point spec, 15 points into another spec that they're giving you, all of it for free. Then there's also the ground gear they give you for yourself and your bridge crew which is all mk xii very rare. You also have at least one officer trained in each of the specialist seatings such as intel, pilot etc. Also not to mention the fact that we'll have spiral waves on the new cardassian ships and new flavors of them. There's also the mk xii very rare starting gear they give your ship. All of that is what I can remember off the top of my head.
They've given us quite a bit to start out with on these new toons and considering all that they have given us, it honestly doesn't bother me about having to get the t5u Phoenix Bug Ship on my own or a t6 version of the ship just so I can use the frigate pets. Plus we have a phoenix event going on right now until the 5th when ViL launches, which gives plenty of time to farm up some dilithium and shoot for a bug ship to get your frigate pets. They've done ALOT with this new expac and have been far more rewarding than many other games out there would be, and all of it you can access for free without ever paying a dime. No game is going to just hand us everything for free, but darn it if this one didn't come close with this expac.

Check the Vanguard Gunboat Frigates that come with the Carrier. You may not even need the JHAS Pets anyway. All Polaron Beams and not a mix of Beams and Cannons.

Exactly. In fact people should be very happy it's T5U, because the other free leveling T5's aren't even upgradeable with the pay tokens.
