Is it a bad idea to use a Kobali Samsar Cruiser on a non-tank based tactical toon?

During the phoenix box event I scored 3 epic tokens, the only ships I didn't have were the Nandi, Samsar and Sarr Theln. Naturally I thought about claiming the Nandi on my tactical toon (which I have), the Samsar on my engineering toon, and the Sarr Theln on my science toon.

I haven't used the last two tokens yet and now I am starting to want the Samsar on my tactical toon as well but he is not a tank based toon and this ship seems better suited to tanking and engineer abilities, and it has very little room for tactical consoles and tactical boff abilities. I really like the look of the ship but I am not at all sure if I should give it to my tactical toon.

IMO, no, not a good idea to use your token for that ship on a Tac.

But I must confess that I like the look as well. The bridge is quite nice and spacious, and has a good “oh s**t” console, but for a Tac... not unless you want to use it as a beam boat. The turn rate can be doctored up, but is still quite sluggish.

I would recommend holding your epic tokens until more items are added to the prize packs.

I am fine with either beam or cannon builds, so I could easily use it for beams.

But it seems to me that only almost previous ships get added to epic, since I always do the events I wouldn't really miss any new ships from now and further into the future.

Yeah, the Samsar is really not that great, especially for a T6. It was a good feebie but that's about it. Looks cool though.

If you really absolutely don't have any other use for the epic token then trade it for UR tokens to get the T5 JHAS and unlock the pets on a character with a Jem'Hadar Dreadnought Carrier or Jem'Hadar Heavy Escort Carrier.

Samsars great as as a tanky torper ... concentrate firepower, spread with pep, grav, neut and maybe the adv luka photon (for cluster spam), set it up for a2b and have a good time

That said, it you are one of those sad souls who can't see sto beyond dps; the sammy is not for you

I suppose if your tactical character is having problems surviving, then the Samsar could useful for it's ship trait; Emergency Response which lowers coldown on hull and shield healing Boff abilities by 10% when your hull drops to 50% or below. The Regenerative Integrity Field console is not bad either since it increases passive hull healing and when activate it will heal your hull, plus for a short period of time firing energy weapons can also heal your hull.

I have been using the console on my ships since 2015, but I have since started to slowly phase it out of usage because I want to use the console slot for something else. I have only used the Samsar on one character.. I guess it was an okay ship... I don't remember anything bad about it, but then again, there was nothing particularly good about the ship that I can remember. I should note that I generally do not use Event Ships. I mostly just collect them.

If you're looking for a ship to chase dps in as a Tactical Captain; no, I do not think the Samsar is a good idea.

However, the Samsar is an amazing platform if you want to build a support ship. There are few ships that can match its capacity to keep allies in the fight(the Quas and Science Command Battlecruisers do surpass it though).

Napalm is right, it's do-able but not the optimal choice.

You can easily destroy Advanced Content and you can handle Elite proficiently, you just won't be setting any DPS records.

The ship has a very limited tactical seating and very heavy on Engineering, so if you're planning to focus on Offense then an Aux2Bat build is your only real option. As Napalm said, you're going to want to gear it out the absolute best you can, but you'll be just fine.

It will take some work, but if that's the ship you like then go for it.

I never fly the Samsar past getting the trait (if that) but I use its universal heal console in many ship builds. If you can spare the slot it's a nice emergency hull fixup for tac and sci captains who don't have the Miraculous Repairs captain skill.

Not sure if you're serious or not. "running ISA on elite" is not a thing since 2014. Infected Space Advanced is as far as it gets until they actually add an elite version.

You're here telling people they don't know what they're talking about while claiming to run a queue that doesn't exist.

There is no Infected Space Elite you moron.

Everyone else is talking about Elite queues, and you're mouthing off despite the fact that you don't even know the difference between Elite and Advanced. You're the type of player that joins Elite Queues with your sub 20k build and when other people drag you like an anchor to an eventual victory you claim that you know everything and that 20k is all it takes. If you're succeeding in Elite's with a 30k build.. you're being carried. You're just too stupid to realize it.

I am already done with this thread and have enough answers for now, I am deciding against using the ship on my tactical toon after all.
