Console Swapping ISSUE

adz006adz006 Member Posts: 123 Arc User
The cd when you swap out consoles is simply not long enough, currently 30 sec,- it allows players to leave combat and replace the console with the same one which is either reclaimed or from the infinity box. To combat this I think a longer cd should be introduced or prevent players from reclaiming or acquiring consoles of the same type.

    PVP complaint?

Please list an example of how this is being exploited to curb stomp you in PVP.

He's talking about hot-swapping consoles during PvP and PvE.

If I'm understanding the OP correctly, he's saying you could, for example, use Console - Universal - Regenerative Integrity Field, exit combat, swap it with a duplicate, and essentially reduce the cooldown to 30 seconds. I've never tried this so I have no idea if my specific example is possible, but I believe that's the kind of thing they are describing.

Sounds like something that someone thinks sounds cool but doesn't actually work. For example I've never had red alert end in less than 30 seconds, and frankly counting time for red alert to end plus the console switch cooldown you end up waiting either longer than the normal cooldown or about the same. Some troll in game has had a great week, first that "crimson triple beam bank" thing & now this.

If OP can't provide real-world examples of the alleged exploit, perhaps he should ask a mod to close this. And stop believing everything he read in chat :)
  • spiritbornspiritborn Member Posts: 999 Arc User
I'm pretty sure any duplicate consoles would share the cooldown anyway (aka the cooldown is shared with all instances of the equipment not just those equipted) and without a cloak is quite hard to leave and re-enter combat (at least in PvE) in a fashion that would make said exploit in any way practical.

    actually,and we are newbies,
my friend discovered swapping 2 different consoles in a certain Order,
does reduce cooldown And he can use both effects at the same time.
dunno if its supposed to work that way or not but its kinda cool.
probably is,but thought it might be relevant to this discussion, sorry if not.

also, the universal console that comes on the free cheese wedge t6 science ship,
if you swap it onto a diff ship the stats Change>?
and then change Back if you reapply it to original ship.

I've never even HEARD of people trying this. Not only that... it takes up inventory space. Only thing I can think of with people actually doing something like this is having one or two extra kit modules. I know I keep a Medical Tricorder on my Cryomancer Sci in case I wanna swap Cryonic Pulse out for a heal.

It could be something that is theoretically possible but seeing as this thread is the first time I've heard of it in any source, it cannot be all that practical.

the "remove yourself from combat" demand already makes it rather unpractical as there's few if any ways of removing oneself from combat that doesn't cause mobs to leash back to their orginal spawn thus defeating any benefit in PvE as any time gained with cooldown reduction would be wasted flying back.

I cannot comment about PvP but if this was as critical of an exploit as the OP makes it out to be I should have heard about it.

you don't have to have a second console. in theory you can simply have 2 loadouts. say you want to used consoles a and b often. you use loadout a, use the powers, exit combat, sawp to loadout B which moves the consoles to different slots and in theory will just start the 30 second cooldown. th question is how do you used them exit combat, swap the loadouts, wait the cooldown in less than 2 minutes, and make it worth the trouble?

This has been around for as long as i can remember it is not a new thing. Basically each console has its own independent cool down. So you can use console Regenerative integrity field console A it starts its cool down, then if you can exit combat you put on Regenerative Integrity Field console B it will load the 30 sec cool down for first equipping the console and its ready to use. This can be done for any console in the game. Each console used still has to do its 2 min cool down, but by swapping multiple consoles you can use the consoles faster than intended. It is very situational as you are not always able to leave combat and thus you cant change consoles,

Does that actually make a difference in real-world-up PVP? OP did a post-and-run so he's never explained why we should care.

If you have a cloaked ship its way easier to pull it off, since it works for all consoles there many different combinations, but for example you can use the Intel ships especially rom, you can be cloaked set up for a vape run hit dynamic then try and vape and use the lance.. so your in combat 10-20 sec run cloak, be out of combat all that depending how long you stay fighting 20-30 sec. Then you can swap the lance and the dynamic wait 30 sec an do it again, thus using the lance and dynamic twice in a min. As i said there are many different things you can do but this is just one example..

It doesn't have to be to that extreme though, you can just be fighting as normal, you used all your click consoles and you happen to run off and no one chases or there is a lul in combat you can swap the consoles out to get a faster cool down too, but either way you are able to get around the intended 2min cool down for most consoles 1:30 on the special set Cool down bonues.

If that is true... it is the most clunky, convoluted, and frankly ineffecient way to reduce a cooldown.

I mean seriously... you'd have to actually be ABLE to disengage in the first place! Some people are actually good at chasing down others when they try and break off.

Not only that... the time you take to actually do that... your opponent could either be doing the same thing... or repairing their ship. Also their own cooldowns will be working as well. And you know that they will not be just sitting there waiting patiently for you to come back. They're gonna be on the move.

Of course its inefficient and isn't very reliable unless you have a ship that can cloak for the most effective and reliable way to do it and that it is very situational. most consoles that you can swap out do not really give much or any advantage of having a reduced cool down, some can give you a slight advantage by being able to use them slightly faster than lets say your opponent if they cant or don't know how to console swap. The fact does remain, that even though it is clunky to do, you can still get cool downs that are faster than intended. I would say that for most of the consoles in game this is not an issue that can really be abused or termed Over powered, but i would say for a hand full of consoles in certain types of ships it could give you some situational advantages

Whether possible or not, this game does not seem difficult enough to worry about doing something like this for the few seconds that it may help ... or not?
  • rattler2rattler2 Member Posts: 44,790 Arc User
Cloak isn't foolproof either. Some people may have excelent stealth detection, and in a group setting maybe even a snooper with a 15km detection range. And then what if you try to escape while a teammate is distracting them... only to get caught in a supersized Gravity Well? The second you take damage, you're in Red Alert. It doesn't even have to be directed at you specifically. It could be an AoE.

Honestly... its so situational that... its impractical. There are too many ways to lock you into combat, even with a Romulan Battle Cloak.

And even if you do manage it... one lucky subnuc basically undoes whatever benefit you might get.

When talking about exploits you must consider how much impact it actually have, something that is so impractical to actually use that there's no real impact. This isn't a game breaking exploit and honest there's worse problem to solve.

I'd have to agree with this.

Is it gaming the system a bit? Perhaps.
Is it game breaking? Not really no.

Its more trouble than its worth.

It takes two mouse clicks to implement, hardly impractical. I'm pretty sure its not a hard fix anyways. And yes reducing cd on a console more than half just by clicking 2 buttons isn't "working as intended"

That's ignoring the posts above about needing to escape combat in real world PVP against a competent opponent. An incompetent opponent is toast with or without the existence of this exploit.

Have you experienced losses in PVP against someone using this, or is it just a theoretical fear?

So it's just a theoretical fear then? Personal attacks are not an answer to the question of whether or not this is worth the devs spending their time on. Devs have only so many work hours in a week, so what gets looked into must be triaged.

Dave's comments are worth far more than yours. At least he has some clue of how things actually work in this game.

    Hate to say it but...

We've already established that escaping combat in a PvP setting is difficult, making the "hotswap" trick impractical. Lashing out at people for stating facts that contradict you is not going to help whatsoever. Baddmoon's already keeping an eye on this in case it gets worse.

CONSTRUCTIVE discussion is good, but lets not devolve into forum PvP over who's right.
