A chance not to have to grind 15 days this particular event. I'll take it. Out of the 3 (Summer and Winter being the other 2), it's the most annoying.
The anniversary ships always come with a project grind.
Now it's a grind. But the first ones, 2nd and 3rd Anniversary, if I remember right...you just did the Featured Episode and you got the ship! So 15mins of your time.

But as a single item that had to be acquired separately on each character.
I would not mind seeing a cruiser Lukari ship. or a Kentari battle-cruiser/tactical-cruiser as the annv ship.
Where the three/faction pack though that would come along after the Annv ship an contain the other parts of the set. I could see a Kumari ship like a updated tier six of the Kumari escort, but then what would we get for the Kdf and Romulan ships in the pack?
So don't count on cyclical parity between TAC/ENG/SCI. It's never been a good predictor for anniversary ships.

Agreed. Winter and summer I actually enjoy, and they are a part outside of the standard game. Anniversary event takes place in the "normal universe" so it feels less like an event to start with, because I do my stuff as usual and throw in the mission, instead of spending weeks (mostly) outside the standard game. Then it's "fly across sector space, do loading screens and a mini game".
As for the ship: I expect a Kentari cruiser. Maybe (but hopefully not) the Factoria as a carrier (?). Would tie in with the storyline, would be a new species to get a ship (as it has been often in anniversary events, exception being Kren Sci following the Annorax before it), and would leave Sci for summer (if my above theory holds) which could complete the Vorgon SciTacEng set.

Reiterating that it will be account-unlocked. You will only have to do the event on one toon, not all of them. I myself don't mind the 'grind'. I just hope to have my desktop back by then or else I won't get to grind for lots of Omega upgrade mats. And not going to buy them, too expensive. Will just wait till next anniversary to get them. Next phoenix box event will come around soon enough and I can stockpile some of those upgrades instead.
Now a LTS and loving it.

I have come to the conclusion that I have a memory like Etch-A-Sketch. I shake my head and forget everything.
It would make sense to save on some development costs if Cryptic chose an alien ship but i also wouldn't expect anything discovery related ship wise at this point, they made a comment about it being too early yet to get a sense of where discovery is going first.

I just tried to edit that....but of course vanilla forums ate the post so here it is again because this is a discussion worth having (even if you personally don't want to participate with its current track.)

The year including the Breen carrier included two science vessels. The year following included two engineering vessels. It's only 2016 and 2017 that have had a broad "cycle" between TAC/ENG/SCI but that could very easily be an incidental byproduct of Cryptic varying what type of ship they release per event (those two engineering vessels in 2015 were a cruiser and dreadnaught). Ie. the TAC/SCI/ENG cycle could be a product of chance and our overgeneralized ship classification scheme, so it could very easily not hold with the impending next ship.
It really depends on Cryptic's internal decision making process for what ships we get when and a broad interest in having variety between ship releases. The best we can accurately say is that we're probably not getting another light escort that caters to the same playstyle as the Breen raider. A heavier Destroyer or Dreadnaught is still within the realm of plausibility (particularly if Cryptic has an idea for a stronger science vessel for winter than they could make now for the anniversary. That we have no way of knowing.

The devs are doing some kind of livestream, and people watching have a chance to win a book and the new anniversary ship. But somebody recently raised a good point: what is the point of the anniversary ship being a prize to these winners if it is free to everyone? So either they are including in their "prize" something everyone already gets, which is silly, or it might not be free this year?
The OP is right that it "might not" be free. It "might" end up being a promo pack only ship with a 1/100 drop rate for 300 zen with no freebie version. It also "might" cost 500,000 lobi with no free version. It also "might" end up as a 3,000 zen cross faction C-store ship with no freebie version.
Of coruse, maybe just maybe, it "might" also just end up being free since all event ships are always free and always have been and always will be.

Looking at the experimental/heavy weapon on the annv ship got me thinking kinda, with how this one seems to create a compressed cloud of particles allowing them to send high-intensity pressure waves at a target. In the idea of using a weapon system to enhance existing weapons on a ship could be fun as another experimental/heavy weapon type, like deploying a focusing type array infront of the ship that boosts the damage of weapons fired thru the array.
LOL does anyone remember when Cryptic actually liked the player base and gave ani ships away without grinding for it. Not even worth my time anymore. The ani thing is a joke now They used be like..hey thank you so much for sticking with us all this time. Remember the little quest for the ody ship when it was added to the game. That was fun and you got a ship. Now its like they feel like they have to do something but lets make you work for it. They are not happy they have to do it at all anymore trust me. The reason is all the whales in this game that spend money on ships. Why give away ships when the player base gladly spend money for them. Heck they are gladly giving us T5 ships that no one wants or buys anymore.
