Our retailers just picked up on the oportunity to capitalise on people's willingness to spend money they don't really have on stuff they don't really need if marginal reductions in price are made.

Wrong day and wrong time plus there is no law saying a company must have a Black Friday at all.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? Lol!
It's true though; I'm sure it was shown, somewhere, that the retailers are quite tactical about these sales and the reductions are actually not that significant.
Yup, it's common practice for companies to slowly or stealthily put up prices in the lead up to a sale.

Absolutely. In fact (here in the UK at least) a few stores opted out and didn't acknowledge it at all last year. In at least one case it was openly stated that it was because of the verbal, and in some cases physical, abuse directed toward the store's staff during the 'event'.
Indeed, I cringe everytime I see a report of the stampedes in America! lol

I wasnt suggesting they had to have one...i was expressing surprise there wasnt anything on.
Agreed regarding the stealth pre sale increases to create 'bargains' tho. Ive certainly seen such practise elsewherr. Re this game tho i would definitely be grabbing a ship or two if we get a 20-25% discount.

They regularly have sales on throughout the year, and Black Friday will not feature bigger discounts unfortunately.

Because only in America, people will trample each other for sales the day after being thankful for what they already have.
In recent years, they even do it the day of being thankful for what they have. Last Thanksgiving I had to run to Wal-Mart cause we had forgotten something for dinner, and I had to wade through a sea of Christmas shoppers to get that one item.
I'm looking forward to the sale (at least I hope there is one) as well. Hopefully will be able buy a couple of ships.
Don't let them promote you. Don't let them transfer you. Don't let them do anything that takes you off the bridge of that ship, because while you're there... you can make a difference.

To be fair though, these days I might actually argue that it's an easy mistake to make.
I mean, over the course of this week I've already received probably nine or ten 'Black Friday' promotional emails from various retailers.
Besides, it's not like it's an offical holiday or anything. In fact, if anything, it's nothing more than a retail generated greed-fest designed to make people spend money they don't really have on **** they don't really need.
Yeah lots of retailers use the buzz word combo of "black friday" throughout this time of year to try to manufacture excitement over their offerings.
When you see "TRIBBLE" in my posts, it's because I manually typed "TRIBBLE" and censored myself.

Yeah, you really have to feel sorry for the retail workers who get told "we need you ON Thanksgiving from 4pm+." And then to add dealing with crazy people on top of that.
We Europeans never had Black Friday - until 2 years ago. Now it seems like every shop in the country has joined in on the sale extravaganza, no matter how small it is. My mailbox and my email inbox are overflowing with advertising material. Most of the sales are starting this weekend and go over the entire next week. It's really more like a 'Black Week'. I can see how the OP got his dates confused because of it.

I've seen some places even advertise it as "Black Week."
Correct me if i'm wrong.
The "Black Friday" was when some people died in some supermarket because of panic (too much people, panic, mob mentality... and we have tragedy).
Now shops everywhere set up sales on the "Black Friday" to get as many people to buy from them as possible...
...
Are the shops not afraid of repeating the history?

Additionally, I believe Cryptic makes their official Black Friday announcements at 7:00am PST on that day.

Or what Cartman did when he couldn't wait three weeks for a Nintendo Wii
