Wish they'd release a cross faction bundle so all of my alts could get at least one science ship.

Sooo ... I'm hoping this is a mistake.

I'm a Fed Tac officer, bought the Fed bundle, readied up the Tac ship, and it won't take cannons ... hrm, ok ...

Go to the blog post about the ships and do a Find for "cannon", and, all three Romulan ships are said to be able to equip cannons? So, the Romulan Sci ship can equip dual cannons, but the other two factions Tac ships can't?! That... doesn't seem right.

Exactly. I wish they'd do that here as well. I'd be happy to spend my money buying the three ships, but I certainly don't need nine more.

It is right. Romulan ships are warbirds, I think all warbirds can equip dual cannons. On the other hand, FED ships are cruisers that traditionally don't have the ability to equip dual cannons (contrary to some FED battlecruisers or dreadnought cruisers that can equip dual cannons). Then there are KDF ships. Most cruiserlike ships they have are battlecruisers (can equip dual cannons), these latest MW cruisers are actually an exception in not being able to equip dual cannons (like a specific subset of Orion flight deck cruisers).

    Tae'Va, T'Vaya, To'Var, Tevra, T'Vira, To'Vrak: Give us Asylums for Romulans.

Consoles are interesting, traits are interesting, boff layout decent enough and the additional power is always appreciated.
Having said that i cannot get past how they look and therefor will not be making a purchase despite being very interested in the miracle worker specialization.

Not keen on the Fed ships at all, but each to their own.

The Rom ships are, in my opinion, pretty nice though and if I were to buy any of them it'd be the Romulan ones.

    @reyan01
    Indeed, to each their own.

I have never been a huge fan of the klingon and romulan design and color scheme (love the orion stuff) and the tendency of pushing the size of the ships from those up, Where does it end, a moon as a battlestar? Taking command of the Dyson Sphere and maneuver it like an escort?

For the fed ships it's the neck and layout which rubs me the wrong way.

Either way, for me it's a deal breaker. Never say never, but purchasing this pack is VERY low on my list of priorities.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

Hang on a minute. The Klingon ships cannot equip dual cannons?

Wait. These aren't battlecruisers. They are cruisers. Why would the KDF make CRUISERS? Isn't this a step backwards for the KDF? The Bortas'qu flagships can equip cannons and have a comparable turn rate. Even the slow as molasses in January Durgath can equip dual cannons and it's from the future.

Ever read the book "Heirs of Empire"?

That thing is not a space station. It's a battleship called an "Imperial Planetoid" that the Empire built by the dozen. They're called planetoids because they're literally the size of moons. :p

i'm considering pulling the trigger but I think i'll wait until

    A. The traits/gimmicks are fixed after being found broken
    B. The traits/gimmicks are found to be overperforming and fixed

or am I being a tad cynical here

I don't know why there are so many negative comments about the look of the ships. Who cares about the look, if it can do a good job, have the stats required the so what. Beauty is only skin deep.

Well MY Durgath is quite fast, (worked a lot to increase the turn rate) thanks!, and also have the MW ships, they are great, thou they cannot equip cannons, its kind of refreshing, as you have to change your tactics.. so I love them..

Are certain players so dependent on cannon builds they literally cannot comprehend or use beam array builds?
That's the impression I'm getting so far, that the cruisers are bad because they aren't "cannon cruisers".

Ok I pulled the trigger. Only tried Fed Tucker Class and it ain't bad.

Just need to work out how resists work now
[Console - Engineering - Conductive RCS Accelerator Mk XIV [ResA] mk xiv epic
[Console - Science - Exotic Particle Field Exciter Mk XIV [Kin+Phys]] mk xiv UR
all 3 pts in hull plating spent
Impact defense specialist and molecular defense specialist traits activated
giving me 47.8% damage resistances for plasma/disruptor and kinetic dmg and I don't feel any more tanky than I do in my Fleet Akira with no armor consoles or traits, only Kinetic res from the Iconian deflector and 1pt in Armor skill tree ?

The Federation's main vessels are cruisers, escorts and science vessels. The KDF's main vessels are battlecruisers, Birds of Prey, and half-baked escorts... er raptors. This is the first 'cruiser' that the KDF has produced. While the addition of KDF science vessels are welcome (since their original line up lacks variety in commander science ships) the addition of a cruiser does not add much to the KDF's line up. I guess it's so they can use Beam: Fire at Will in conjunction with the 'Attract Fire' cruiser command. Does not seem like it is worth losing dual cannons.

ah, yes, beam fire at will is SUCH a change in tactics, why, it's a new thing! It's not like you haven't been doing it on your fed main for the last seven years...

well, yes, its my first beam only ship on my KDF side... well second with the Durgath, i kinda like to use cruisers, to be honest, thou I have pilot ships and Battlecuisers too...
  • tilartatilarta Member Posts: 1,798 Arc User
So if understand the concern correctly, it's players who have only known "cruisers" that can equip cannons and now that they've encountered a cruiser that cannot, they dislike the concept because it's not what they are used to.

Someone already said it somewhere, but I'm also expecting certain existing T6 cruisers/battlecruisers/warbirds (by whatever chosen criteria) to be retroactively fitted with that extra universal console slot.

As for the MW ships' looks, I find the Klothos skin incredible, Warbirds are nice especially the sci and tac ones, and the Fed ones if only that neck wasn't so exaggerated (or if they simply separated into 2 ships) it would have been a somewhat tempting pack.

BFAW was also (rightfully) nerfed, but sad to see it being sold back all over again - this practice of """balance""" is transparent and needs to stop.

Logistically, these ships are a shift in paradigm. Rather than the somewhat (okay, very) dubious idea of the Battlecruiser, this is a purebreed cruiser meant for survival and durability. Think of it as an acceptance and consideration of the Coalition's tactics
