Civilian Ships

Can we get some more civilian ships? There are so few of these, and I know people would enjoy them. It would be a welcome break from the normal. Even if you use the generic ship skins. These are mostly found in the foundry. But you can see them in Mirrors and Smoke. All the Kentari ships, aside from the boos ship, are the generic ship skin.

I'd personally welcome ships with the generic ship skin. It would give you players a bit more freedom to play what they wanted.

Of this I'm aware. While I'd like to see them utilized more. I can live with how things are, story wise. They are meant to be played from Starfleet's point of view. I see these and the others you mentioned, which some of them can also be used in the foundry.

I know this falls more in the realm of what the Roleplayers would like to see. I want to use the generic ship skin on my ships. Just so I can get that civilian feeling during Red Alerts and such. That, "Ok, what the hell have I gotten in to now?" But if you break it down, by species. The "civilian" ships we have, are still aligned with a faction. Be that faction Federation, KDF, Romulan, Cardassian, Breen, Ferengi, or whatever enemy ship happens to popup. The closest we have to civilan ship are the Ferengi, Lukari, Tufli, and Vorgon ships.

I'd especially like to see a ship exterior generator. At least for the foundry. This way, I can mix and match existing ship exterior pieces to create unique ships for my projects. Which I'm sure, every foundry author would enjoy. To bad Cryptic only has two developers that actually work on the foundry.

I really wouldn't call the Ferengi and Vorgon ships 'civilian ships', those were for the most part built for war by their respective species.

True. This is why I said the closest ones we have are those. They aren't exactly civilian ship, just the closest thing to it.

The Tufli freighter and the Risian Ships really are the only two civilian ships we have, that the player can use.

The Andorian ships aren't civilian either(they're 100% military craft) and Vulcan ones are borderline at best. Honestly we're at or pretty close to the limit where playble civilian ships can belivebly be at.

Civilian ships (even modified ones) shouldn't be able to take on a purpose build warship (what quite franky even starfleet ships are) and have realistic chance of winning. With few rare exceptions civilian ships should be NPC-only ships (that said those NPC could be used more as most major systems seem rather barren at the moment)

The only true civilian ships that you can fly in game right now are the Tuffli freighter and the Amarie escort.
Those being the only two made by persons unknown and used by non-faction people in canon/semi-canon.
Nearly all other ships are built by a faction for warfare/patrols etc.

+1 For more civilian ships :sunglasses:

Personally, I think Cryptic is really missing an opportunity here.

Speaking from my own perspective, I have several alts who are simply dilithium miners (and one slaver) They wear civilian clothing. For them to be flying round in a service-ship, simply doesn't 'feel right' to me. One, is lucky enough to have a Tuffli, which I was generously gifte, and it is amazing. Maybe only T1, minimal slots for gear, but it handles like a dream, and can literally spin like a top!

If Cryptic were to put more civilian ships, both faction-specific and universal, in the C Store at a modest price, say, 2500Z, I suspect they would get a Lot of sales, from people who want such ships just to 'complete the look' of their alts. Three people buying a freighter for 2500Z is better than one person buying a T6 Cruiser for 3000Z ;) From the amount of 'non-uniform' characters I see in the various social zones, I suspect there would be a market for them :sunglasses:

I am sure that civilian ships have been absconded by military, police and intel groups (as well as pirates and marauders)...just as military ships camouflaged to look civilian....for covert assignments or as lures.

I don't see why not inside this game....
And allowing the imagination of the players to run wild...I am all in. :)

Oh SWEET! I see others are already seeing how more civilian ships can be used.

As Silverlobes pointed out. There are a lot of RPer's out there that would enjoy being able to finish fleshing out their characters, by actually having a civilian ship.

As Where2r1 pointed out, it's also a viable means for special task forces and episodes to have a more realistic feel. Especially when you have to commandeer a ship to do a intel mission. Some would say, "But you can just use a holo-emiiter." This only covers the visual appearance of said ship. A simple energy signature analysis, would reveal, that is not the ship it looks like. So this only works against idiots and species that have not run into a holo-emitter before.

This would also help out the foundry authors, as I mentioned. I do work in the foundry. Though I focus more on the ground side of the game with them. Simply because I'm tired of having to recycle the same ship skins over and over for different uses. At least with ground, I can run between the different factions and outfits to create a signature look for any new species. We can't do this for ships, we can only recycle the faction looks. I'd like a ship appearance generator for the foundry. One that would allow us to mix and match pieces from the various ships, to create new appearances. This could also be used by the players, a civilian hodgepodge mixup for the pieced together ship look. Though I'd likely keep this contained just to the foundry.

    And if you go here:

You can see where I was working on possible new KDF ships. You can also see where the community was jumping in and helping.

I do this as well, Kek has a Kazon Raider specifically for 'undercover' missions. Totally different feel and capabilities to his main ship, which is the MU Assault Cruiser :sunglasses:

I've actually (successfully) used my Tuffti freighter in a few sector alerts. I'd love to have an armed freighter / smuggler ship among my fleet.

Don't forget the Suliban Cell Ships.

DY-500 Class or even DY-100 Class.

Exactly! As I mentioned in the original post. If you go back and play the Mirrors and Smoke episode, look at the ships you see there. Take away the tzenkethi ship, and the final boss ship. Every other ship you see there is the generic ship look directly out of the foundry. Some you can see here:

    https://sto.gamepedia.com/Non-playable_starship

Down under the Acarmarian and Alien listings at the bottom. And I believe in the foundry, though not listed, there is a generic fighter look as well.

Would the Amarie actually count as a civilian ship? The Tuffli only has a few weapons for basic defense and is used by merchants and traders while the Amarie is heavily armed and used by smugglers and arms dealers.
I'd say that at best, it's a paramilitary ship, as its typical owners are either criminal or morally ambiguous combatants disguised as civilians, or privateers.

I'd say the Amarie originally was civilian, it is similar to civilian freighters and cargo ships (well same model at least) so I can head-canon a common civilian shipyard building a basic hull form.

Stuff like the Bajoran freighter is the same model so I'd love to see that in game.

The Tuffli I have is spec'd for fast Sector Speed and fast Hyperdrive and Transwarp cooldowns. Turrets and Mines, Picard Console and other stuff to get out of combat quickly.

Don't forget the J Class from Enterprise. ECS Horizon for Mayweather's family. Warp 2 max. They didn't realize they could go Warp 9.97 if it was commanded by a Vice Admiral (Level 50). :)

Yeah the Bajoran ones came to mind as I posted the original post. There are also the Turei ships. Though, I'm not sure one can count these as civilian, given the Delta Alliance. With them opening up more of Alpha, I would wager there are a few more civilian ships that can be created there as well.

I'm sure even the ship collectors would like to be able to add a few more of these to their collection.

Check Memory Alpha under Freighters and you will see a very lengthy list.

It would defenitly add to the roll playing part.

I would like to see more added to the role playing partt, which is now very limited to fighting and some storylines with more fighting.

What about all the other things species do?

Attempt to not get killed by Starfleet would be my guess.
