How conditions are needed to disintegrate targets with the Omega Torpedo? I've done it several times but have no idea what caused it, can't figure out a pattern and didn't see anything in the wiki about it.
from my experience, it is when you use the High Yield Torp, and the target ship has to be of a HP that is below the total damage output of said torpedo.
It has no relation to expose/exploit. It's simply that if a ship is destroyed within - I think - 10 seconds of being hit by a HY Omega plasma torpedo it's disintegrated.
And yes, it only applies to HY shots, aka disco balls.
I said they sound similar, specifically in that they're vaporised/disintegrated if killed within a certain time limit after using a specific special attack.
The only real difference I see is that Expose/Exploit needs a specific attack to get the kill, while the Omega effect doesn't.
On one of my BoP's i have the Borg/Omega set combo. What I tend to do is wait till the enemy has about 50% of it's HP, then unleash a High Yield Omega torp at them, that pretty much guaranteees disintegration, as long as you hit a flank without any shield.

Only the High Yield version?

In one of my Romulan Torpedo tutorials, I demonstrate it VGer-ing a target (and myself).

I knew using Kinetics would be playing the game on hard mode, but what I didn't realize was how bad the deck is stacked against Kinetics.
