Yeah, I gotta go with Kenna on this. The actors themselves should have the final word in how their likeness is portrayed in new works, even after their deaths, not their families or estates, etc. If the actor is not around anymore but having the character is important, then the show/movie should just recast. A few seconds of CGI cameo is one thing (even if it's kind of a gimmick), but anything longer and the likeness essentially becomes a sock-puppet for someone else's acting and characterizations. That seems pretty disrespectful. Would you like YOUR likeness to be puppeted like that in screen works you had no part in making for decades after your passing?

As fun as it might seem to see old faces return to screen after their death, the reality is that "All good things must come to an end".

What are your thoughts of Jason Isaacs taking command of the Discovery? Do you think he’s Starfleet Captain material?
He's not secretly working with the Death Eaters...I mean, the Klingons, is he? If not, then sure he can be a Starfleet Captain. Just keep him away from the magical despots. That won't end well.

    Hey. Great show, as always!

    To the questions asked,

How do you feel about the possibility of bringing back iconic characters like Bones, Scotty, or Spock in CGI format — much like they did Peter Cushing’s character in Rogue One?:

I think the use of an actor's likeness with CGI is acceptable when that actor is unable to portray the character that is associated with their likeness. An actor accepts that they are portraying a role, but they almost never hold ownership of that character and, if they accept the role of that character, they are also accepting linking their appearance as that character to how it will be portrayed in the media. When that character is a central figure, it can harm the final production by jarring the viewer when an attempt is made to make the viewer accept someone who is clearly not the same person as the same character. Thus, the use of CGI to portray a -character- with an actor's likeness is acceptable as long as it is in the context of that character and in good faith to the actor's portrayal of that character.

When it would be wrong would be if that same process were used to portray the -actor-, which crosses the line into slander and impersonation.

What are your thoughts of Jason Isaacs taking command of the Discovery? Do you think he’s Starfleet Captain material?
    :

I think we've had at least one Captain with a similar accent that pulled it off fairly well, so I will await and see the character. I've yet to see a Starfleet Captain in the main chair who didn't eventually grow into the role.

Look forwards to the next show!
