T6 Elachi Escort Trait

"While this trait is slotted, activating Beam: Overload or any Pilot ability generates a Crescent Wave Counter for 2 minutes. After obtaining 3 counters you will fire a devastating Crescent Wave blast at your target, dealing extreme disruptor damage and reducing their damage resistance."

Am I reading this right? You can only fire it once every six minutes? :| Or is it three counters every two minutes?

When would you actually be able to use this? Most stfs in the game are over in less than six minutes now, and pvp is even quicker.

I think it means that those counters remain for two minutes. So it you don't activate Overload or a Pilot ability three times in those two minutes and actually fire that Crescent Wave, then you lose the counters. If you activate three abilities in, say, 30 seconds, you fire that thing and then it resets.

What I'm curious about is whether this special crescent wave also has a charge up time btw.

Most of these special consoles (the Plasma Wave thingy is another example) take way too long. You're disabled for 5-7 seconds, vulnerable, and in the end you could have done as much or even more damage by just firing your weapons for those 5-7 seconds.

I'm mostly interested in the trait for my Tac who uses Disruptor weapons and a set that boosts it... if it has a charge-up time or if it's not boosted by Disruptor bonuses, then it's probably not that interesting for me.

I imagine it's how risian4 says: the counters last two minutes but you can build them as often as you activate BO or pilot abilities. I'm just making an educated guess on how quickly it fires but I would expect a 1-2 warm-up if any, nothing like the delay when using the S'golth console ability. It's a trait for a pilot ship and the idea behind those is to move around quickly; that doesn't lend itself to squinting at how many charges you have built up all the time.

Because it has been known to data miners for long before it arrived on PC.

...and also someone discovered "reading" around 3500 B.C. and it has been used ever since. Anyone who does STO should "read" those blogs before posting to avoid being looked as a jackass (no punt intended).

Ok thanks. The wording is very confusing so hopefully you're right. It sounds like it could be a pretty good trait IMO. Good point about the charge up time, hopefully there is none.

It looks potentially very fun if you stock up on pilot skills. With no lockout possibly very potent.

risian4 is correct. You get a counter every use and you just have to spend them in 2 minutes. There seems to be a little bit of a buggy nature to the counters because sometimes they launch at 2 and sometimes at 3 so there may be some weird overlap in the coding that they'll need to fix. It also launches immediately so you basically get a Beam Overload crit + additional damage every 3rd use if you don't have any pilot skills slotted.

Is it as powerful as the console its based off?

The trait deals 18,774.2 disruptor damage and the console deals 34,700.6 disruptor damage with my current gear just sitting in a mission going by the tooltips. The trait is affected by things that boost Dis damage like the Disruptor Induction coils for what it's worth. It's also boosted by normal things like EP:W and Radiant Sub Pulse, so it'll scale up decently well during normal combat where it should be going off pretty often going by my testing earlier.

Even with the 30 second lockout between discharge and when you can build your next charge, which I think is where the buggy "launch at 2 sometimes" issue is coming from, it's not hard to get off plenty of them in normal combat without having to freeze in place like the console does so it's "free" additional damage by just altering your rotation a little.

So there is a 30 second lockout? Even at half the consoles damage though thats twice the DPS.

Yeah, but as I said it seems buggy. From doing some testing a few minutes ago I think it's closer to an actual 15 second lockout with a VISIBLE 30 second "lockout" of the notification not showing up on the buff bar. That's why I was getting launches at "2" counters.

And yeah, the amount of damage this thing can do is nice. It's way better than the console and I just passively shoot off crescent waves at my foes all the time making my Sheshar feel like a true Elachi ship. I might actually open some lockboxes again to build up more lobi for the Silent Enemy set because adding Haywire charges to this might be really entertaining. Ship and trait are well worth the EC for anyone that likes Elachi stuff.

And there's also those special Energy weapon doffs that have a chance to reduce special beam abilities cooldowns - by 50% I think.

Or with tactical initiative and/or reciprocity, it's usually not difficult to use the same overload ability 3 times in, I don't know, 40 seconds or so? So even with one pilot ability and firing the same overload twice, it should be possible to trigger it every 30 seconds.

I have fired Plasma Waves that dealt over 150k damage on characters that used plasma gear and bonuses, even though the base values are much lower of course. If this trait has the same potential to benefit from disruptor buffs, then I must have it :)

Yeah i know, i fly all my tactical and science powers at global. And because unlike the console this trait can be used on any ship that opens up some interesting possibilities.
