Consoles: Requesting A Way To Load PC Character & Costume Files

jcswwjcsww Member Posts: 6,789 Arc User
The server hiccups have gotten old on the PC and consoles. I have tried to create a new character twice and have been booted due to a lost connection to the server on both occasions. Everything else doing whatever is fine and nothing out of the ordinary in my router and modem logs. Basically, I would like to recreate one of my characters and some of her customes that I play and use on the PC side, but in a MU theme on the console. It would be so much easier if I could just shove that file on a USB stick and able to load it up on my XBOX One. Could something like this be done, please?

Edit: For the sake of clarity because some people read far into things without actually reading more than the title. I do not want my character(s) copied from the PC with all of their achievements, levels, gear, etc. All I want are the character costume files to easily recreate the look of a character on consoles!

The problem is that your PC Toon probably has things that aren't available on the consoles.

So it won't jive with the current patch on which ever console you're using, thus making the game most likely crash.

    ADDENDUM:

Your character file is All Inclusive, there's probably no real way at this point to separate just the Texture Files from the rest of the content.
That's pretty obvious by just transferring a toon to TRIBBLE, everything swaps over, not just the way you look.

This would be nice, but if I was playing on PS4 I'd rather have them work on all the missing features like no customized power levels.

Also, if you bought something from the PC C-Store to change the look of your toon in anyway and it's not available for the consoles, that would probably hinder a character transfer. (again, crashing your game)

Right, because equipping an outfit piece in the pc version doesn't give you the option to buy it right there, and crashes the game instead... /s

I haven't looked at what's available for the consoles, but since it supposedly is only up to Season-11.5, I would imagine that anything made available and purchased in the seasons after that, would most likely cause a problem with any transfer.

Are you truly willing to give up stuff you've paid for just to get your STO fix on a console?
I would imagine most folks would be a bit annoyed to say the least.

For some reason I have lust in my heart for the Andorian Light Escort, and I've never created an Andorian captain....

But from all the posts it seems like the consoles would annoy me in their current state, knowing everything I can't do.

I have swapped character costume files with other players on the PC before. When it comes to costume pieces I don't own that others have and saved in the file. It just resets that part of the costume.

Looks like someone's never used the 'save outfit' feature in the tailor, it lets you not only copy your outfit, but your whole character's appearance. You can use it on any character of the same race regardless of faction.

Which means that EVERYTHING is tied to your PC Account and the Patch it is currently being played in.

Tell me again how that is going to work being transferred over to a console that's at least two seasons behind??

It could be done, it's just a data export and import. But like full character transfers it would be a moving target as what is in both versions changes over time. And again there are much more pressing tasks on the to-do list.

The console isn't 2 seasons behind in terms of story content. It's roughly equivalent to season 11.5 since Future Proof and the skill system revamp are present.

On topic though, the OP is wanting to just have them go through the time and work of having to separate the costume file of a character and allow it to be imported into the console versions, which will likely involve a lot of coding. Coding of course that could be better spent getting oh I don't know, the missing systems from the console installed and working on the PC version.

That's not correct! Costume files have absolutely no game version information or account data!

It's not rocket surgery, no, but writing the export, import, then doing QA (don't laugh), then updating both of them as new features are added to console would be a drain on developer time.
