Ih...to be fair, I don't think that Urban's McCoy is nearly as significant in the JJVerse movies as DeForest Kelley's is in TOS and the older movie series. In the Prime Universe, Kirk is always bouncing ideas and decisions off of McCoy, and the friendly rivalry and constant ribbing between the Doc and the ever-logical Spock is much more paramount. The result is that McCoy is solidified as the third member of Trek's 'Three Musketeers', and therefore invaluable.
By contrast in JJLand, the relational focus is much more on the 'Odd Couple' dynamic between Kirk and Spock alone, generally relegating Doctor McCoy to the sidelines. I don't believe that he's one to get into the typical JJ shoot 'em up action with Kirk and the rest of the landing party either ("I'm a doctor, not an action star!"). JJMcCoy isn't the focus on the Bridge as much, and there's also less of those 'medical emergency of the week' scenarios that demand to take place in Sickbay where, surprise surprise, original McCoy would have been there in the spotlight. All that combines to make Urban McCoy's role in NuTrek much smaller, something that to a not-diehard-Trekkie could easily be taken to mean that the character is not necessarily vital to tell the stories that the JJClan are telling.
All that said, no Star Trek movie with Kirk and Spock involved would be the same without good ol' Bones.
Which part of the Star Trek Online Risa event are you looking forward to the most?
Besides the daily ship token mission and grinding up some more favors to get a couple new Hula shirts and those sexy, sexy Retro chic outfits (great for showing green-haired alien chicks the wonders of the night sky and the meaning of love and 'help'), I've just about gotten what I wanted from Risa already. So I'll put in a few minutes a day for the ship, the rest of any time I spend there maybe I'll use to lounge a bit with a mai tai or free surf a little if the mood strikes me, but that's it. Qwen's new treasure hunt currently ranges from moderately easy to a ridiculously tedious and click-heavy task (and the excessively spawning red ley lines thing might be contributing to some of the map loading lag players have been experiencing). Really, I'm still waiting on that underwater adventure zone that might have been promised at some point, or did I make that up in my head just now? Either way, it should happen.
The studio/director can pick actors/charaters from Enterprise, Voyager, DS9 or TNG
As for the comment about " you can not longer make a movie with just people talking in a conference room.."
Tom Hardy can do it, just put the Picard Clone in a tiny shuttle and you can make trek version of "Locke"
