PLEASE let us unslot the cannons! (Dyson Science Destroyer)

It would be amazing if we could actually remove the cannons on the Dyson Science Destroyer... Make them like the aux cannons on the Vesta! Keep everything else about it, but let us slot what we want in that fourth forward weapon slot!

    If they were like the aux cannons of the vesta you could have 4 of them.

    Anyways, aren't sci ships usually a 3/3 layout?

    Yes. The 7th weapon is technically a bonus.

    Yes, but it doesn't have to be a bonus. The ship could still have its Science/Tactical versions, and that 4th weapon would only be available in Tactical mode. But it would still be a weapon of our choice... Also, it they were able to be removed, then someone could conceivably equip a whole ship with them, just like one could with the Vesta cannons...

    If people don't like the cannons, then just use the ship as a 3/3 layout ship and let the cannons just be an added bonus. I got the DSD knowing full well that the cannons are not removable. And you know what, using protonic weapons on that ship just plain works. Will people just please stop trying to change the ships from what they are to something else? If you want removable cannons, just fly another ship.

    I've run cannon build DSD's, it's quite doable. What makes the fixed weapon annoying is the proton damage type.

    Love the Dyson type ships don't mess with them. Just give us a pure proton weapon and tac console for them!

    If I had the ship as a real 3d model, I would break off the cannons. The Romulan ship has a nice design, but those ugly sticks are a let down. I fly it as a pure science ship, though.

    Can't remove the cannons as they are 'hard-wired' into the design as a 'Tactical' weapon. What you should ask is to be able to change the energy type!

    Actually, thinking of it they could make so they are 'Adaptive Energy Cannons: These cannons take on the prevalent energy weapon type equipped including the prevalent specialized proc associated with the energy weapon'. That way you don't have to fiddle about with swapping out cannons or fiddling with drop-downs.

    Proton weapons are still rare enough that this wouldn't be overpowered.

    That'd be nice. You've got the welded on DSD cannon, the experimental protonic weapon, and protonic polaron procs. The half/half dyson consoles boost 1-2 weapons and possible procs at half the effectiveness of a normal console at the cost of all the rest of the weapons being stuck at half console values. Changing the dyson consoles to be better for the non-proton portion would help out a lot as well.

    The minute cooldown on tactical mode on top of it not being a mode that persists between maps and respawns makes the uptime of the built in proton weapon less than what it should be if you want to fly a DSD as a tac ship.

    I have one of these on my main. I forget why I bought it. I also forgot it came with a proton cannon.

    You know what would be nice? If proton damage wasn't blocked by any type of armor. Like on neutroniums when is says +X all energy damage resistance, that proton isn't a factor in that. Then use prefire chambers to buff the proton damage and your other cannons, and let it skip past everyone's resistances. Protonic polaron weapons would be in higher demand too.

    That's about the only way I would ever use this ship.

    Yeah...that is my biggest complaint...they're infinity...which is only what...equivalent to Mk X at max level I believe?

    Back to Topic.
    Problem with your request OP, it would take some development resources to accomplish this feat.
    There's far better things they could be working on atm, like things that will make them money.

    I really don't know how many man hours it would take to accomplish your request, but just thinking about it gives me a headache.
    The cannons are locked to that Tactical/Defensive mode switch...so might be complicated to separate that.
