This goes way back to a Year One bug where your BOs where literally on top of you because they followed too closely.

Very hard to access the panels at the end for the two females being in the way

That's because the gays are coming to corrupt the children.

Or maybe they really were trying to shove their deviant homosexuality in our faces.

I jest.

There's all sorts of clipping issues in that mission. I've had Klingons in walls, Heralds in the ceiling, my boffs and enemy NPC bouncing off each other like they were pinballs. I'm just happy only non-essential NPCs have had the issue.
