T6 Ships for Rear Admiral (lvl 40)?

dabelgravedabelgrave Member Posts: 979 Arc User
Is this a mistake, or are level 40 characters going to have access to T6 ships?

Per the dev blog, the Benthan Assault Cruiser and Hazari Destroyer minimum rank required is: Rear Admiral / Brigadier General / Sub Admiral I.

Pretty sure it is a typo since the Kazon are supposedly better at stealing technology than I thought if they have Hazari Shield Drones equipped on their ships.

    Looks like they are.
    Hull Strength:
    37,500 at level 40, 43,125 at level 50 and 50,000 at level 60

The separate hull listing means it scales down.

But what about the boff seating, console slots, and all that other stuff?

    These are not T6 ships.

    These are fleet T6 quality.

I am not impressed with cryptics commitment to T6 being competitive with T5u.

It's inevitable. T5's and Us are going the way of Old Yeller. How do they convince people to keep buying store T5s is what I want to know? Has to be a reduced price right....right?

As soon as I heard of Expansion 2 occuring with new Level Cap and then the later announcement of T6 ships, even WITH T5U, I knew T5u would never be truly competitive with true T6 ships.

TBH, I was very surprised people believed T5u = T6 even with Cryptic's assurances.

I was also very surprised how people were touting the equality... okay, so there may be a point when you compare the best of the best of T5u to the very first T6 ships shown that were not even the T6 Lobi/Lockbox versions, much less Fleet T6 we haven't seen yet. The very first T6 were fighting these comparisons with 1 hand behind their back until their Fleet versions com into play later (and they will soon, watch).

Not to mention the fact that the Intel BOFF abilities are very OP, and T5u and even some T6 ships will not have the heavy access that the Intel ships will have.

The burial of T5 / T5u began as soon as T6 ships were announced.

Right now, the only edge T5u would have is ship selection. Science Ships, Carriers for instance are a gaping hole in T6, as well as T6 Raiders / BOPs. And given time, more T6 will fill those gaps. Maybe even T6 versions of the current Pre-DR ship selections. But right now? T5u is already half-buried and the shoveling continues. People just didn't want to believe it to cling onto their expensive Pre-DR ships that much longer, clinging ever so tightly to "the way things were" and not to the way things are going to be.

Hell no it's not going to be priced lower.

    What I think will happen?

More new T6 ships (regular, fleet, lockbox, lobi) to acquire.

    Or

A true upgrade to T6 for the old ships.

    Or

True T6 versions of the old ships. That you have to buy again.

I actually think 2 of these 3 will occur.

Yes, that one boff and option for fun-house intel powers is going to make ALL the difference in EVERY situation.

    WE ARE ALL DOOOOMED

[more seriously, is this at all suprising? There's the fleet upgrade, and the tier upgrade. Separate systems and this was clear from the start. The lack of initial T6-Fleet ships should have been IN NO WAY construde as a balancing decision to keep T5-U-Fleet "competitive." They're already competitive in all the areas that count. If you want to find something to whine about, there's far better fodder in the other upgrade systems. This one is fairly innocuous.)

Kind of have to disagree with you. Right now it's not so bad but as more and more fleet t6 ships come out and the Cryptic power creep kicks in with more console sets and better traits t5u ships will be in the same position as level 40 ships are now. Competative but if your driving one your about useless.

Same thing happened the last time we had a level cap increase. We were promised the same thing, and years later no one flies the free ships anymore.

No because the base stats of fleet ships are inherantly superior to their free counterparts. Why on earth would I still fly a patrol escort when the fleet version gives me the exact same thing with bonus health and an extra console?

T6 on the other hand is a bit different. You have the option to unlock space traits but that just encourages you to buy the ships (not use them indefinitely). You have the extra boff and specialist space but the former enables the latter (otherwise you're loosing at least one core power for something with a bit more spice and less direct application) while the latter distinctly favors more lateral gameplay (which if you go more for than 1 intel power could represent a significant compromise).

Its by no means the same situation (especially without direct analogs). Even when they release a Fleet Eclipse I'm still going to want to hold onto and use my fleet sovereign because while it doesn't have the bells and whistles its still a damn fine, top level ship according to the game's core mechanics (which you can easily bet aren't shifting to demand intel powers and associated mecahnics.)

Hell we've been through a similar situation at least twice before with DSD dual modes and the rear tail gun on the Tempest. You could look at those simply and say "this will make all other science ships/escorts obsolete!" (for they addressed previous limitations without offering clear, decisive, easy to digest drawbacks.) However with their brand of novelty it wasn't marketed at a step up, technically unobtainable to the rest of the shipyard. It was just more movement sideways, as is this in essence.

All I will say is, if they want to sell T5 upgrade tokens, they better price them cheap.

Either that or roll out the canon T6 ships out soon.

A sizable number of people want to fly canon ships, competitively.

It would be a mental and economical fallacy to continue selling T5-U ships in the C-Store or in lock boxes.

Cryptics marketing spiel seems to be focusing folks on the 'frenzy' of the DR pack - as if they forgot the rip off C-store sales of a certain ship right after the LOR pack.

T6 ships will be aplenty just as soon as cryptic has milked the fugly DR failboat pack.

*edit* I acknowledge that some people do not think the DR pack ships are 'fugly' 'failboats'. And apologies accordingly.

The T5-U versus T6 argument has been done to death and it probably wasn't wise of me to rant on as I did above.

But I will just say one thing here (because it does apply to more recent conversations than the aforementioned dead horse.)

Why do you want to have cryptic release separate T6 copies of old ships when that cost (2500-3000 zen most likely) will just result in a slottable trait and an extra boff slot?

Ship stats, console space, special consoles, that's not going to change. If you just need something to ring, why not just ask for stand-alone starship traits?

Well if Cryptic follows their own short history, then T7 ships should be coming in 2017/2018.

You got plenty of time to save up...

Just for the record, do these alleged T6 lockbox ships not have the T6 ship/boff abilties?!?

    Why yes, yes they do.

And, unlike the DR pack T6 ships, this will also have eleven consoles.

So, they'll have the T6 abilities we've come to expect, as well as the extra console which was the T5Us only claim to parity.

    I see. Thx.

So much for T5U still being viable, LOL. We're competing with T6.5 now.

These lockbox ships are quite fascinating.

The Benthan Assault Cruiser for instance, has a Commander, a LtCdr, and three lieutenants. Like the intel ships it has one more boff power, but it's an extra Lt ability instead of an extra LtCdr ability compared to the tier 5.

The Hazari destroyer on the other hand retains an ensign and gets the two LtCdr slots.

And it's weird to me that they are available at Rear Admiral...O-7 level. You would think that Tier 6 ships would at least be Vice Admiral O-9.

The Kazon raider being a Tier 5-U, AND you'll need to buy an upgrade for it as opposed to it being free like the pre-Delta Rising lockbox/lobi ships, also a surprise. It makes sense to a degree as Cryptic seems quite determined to never let any ship fielded in the 24th century, or even the last year in game time to be a top tier ship. And as far as I'm concerned no Kazon ship should ever be above tier 4 to begin with unless they stole it from someone else.

So I'm wondering is this a statement that tier 5 ships will continue to be released.

And a final bone to pick, why is it that every lockbox/lobi ship gets a special bridge and no C-Store ships have gotten them since the Flagships? (Intrepid excused due to the Voyager's plot importance).

that kind of scuppers the point of charging people to upgrade T5 ships to T5u, what is the point of putting a charge of say $5 on the upgrade if they then have to reduce the price of T5 ships by $5 to sell them in the first place, it seems to me if they do that the only players who will suffer are the ones who purchased T5 ships pre DR.

if thats not unfair then i dont know what is.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
