It still is a "tree" in the crudest sense, since you need to spend skillpoints in the lower "branches" to unlock the upper ones.
If anthing i'd call it a "skillpyramid"...a line would mean you have no choice and would make skilling redundant.
also the trem skilltree is a generic term, not necessarely meant to describe a skill system similar to branches on a tree. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skill_tree
so before going around and slaping people, even if it is only virtualy, you should google the term in question.
