An Idea to Add to the New R&D.

One of my fleet mates suggested an idea that there should be a project to DECONSTRUCT vendor trash. This mission can have a timer and break down the gear giving you a little crafting XP and possibly some materials and components.

This way people can decide to either sell to vendor, put on exchange, or break it down for crafting XP/components.

Any backers to the idea? I thought it was a good one.

People did bring up reverse engineering and scrapping, even before the new Crafting system went on Tribble. But the idea got rejected.


Think Geko mentions it in one of his recent interviews. Believe it was on Priority One.

It was not rejected. It's a possible future feature. But it's not in now.
On Stoked Radio yesterday it was mentioned that it may allow learning specific item recipes, so you can avoid the randomization stuff.

And even before that another dev (adjudicatorhawk) mentioned on the forums that the items already contain information how they were made, so to speak, so reverse engineering and getting components back would be feasible.
