Ok, how the hell do you get past that stupid slingshot deal? I quit counting how many times I've tried, and I just can't do it. Can't seem to turn quick enough to make the 3rd gate.

Anyone know how???

I'm afraid there isn't really any trick to it; it's not supposed to be particularly challenging.

Do you have a particularly slow turning ship? If so, try getting some RCS consoles or something.

Also, try using the keyboard controls for turning if you don't already (it always worked for me).

If you fail about 3 times in a row (don't leave the mission between each try), you should get an option saying your computer has calculated the course trajectory needed from the failures and you can engage autopilot, thus allowing you to 'skip' the manual slingshot and carry on.

Most of the problem I had previously with this mission was related to camera positioning. Try zooming in a bit and locking the camera so that it follows your ship as you turn.

Some ships just don't have the turn rate needed to make that slingshot. I first tried that mission on a klingon in a vo'quv... didn't work very well...

Abuse Evasive Maneuvers? Buy a bunch of RCS consoles? Put more power to engines?

Your FO should offer to let the computer do it for you after a couple of failures ...

I've never had a problem. because I always use a combination of the above techniques ... Zoom right up close to your ships tail, and use both mouse buttons ...

I passed it on first try on my vu'qov yesterday. Always use both mouse buttons to steer. But after 2 failed attempt you should be getting autopilot choice

Ok. I guess I was giving up too soon. I'll try it again, and look for the auto pilot option if I fail 3 times.

    Thanks for all the replies.

I have an idea for what Season 11 should be; Season 11: The Big Bug Fix.
I have not been able to read my bug tickets in over a year, not even the tickets about not being able to see my tickets.

I don't know what happened this last time. I did go for the up close view. Still, I was using the keyboard for turning but, this time made it on the first pass.

    Thanks for all the suggestions.

Fast turning ship helps - I typically fail on Engi characters unless I'm playing against type and flying an escort at that stage.

Also, aim the ship at the next circle marker as soon as you hit each one - don't try to follow the "path" or you'll turn too late in most cases.

Easiest way is to simply fly the map view of the challenge. Get lined up initially with traditional view, flip to your map, never fails...

Probably not the best tactic to use, but i simply did the following:

    1. Go Full Impulse
    2. Press the letter "A" to continuously turn left.

Made it thru on my 1st attempt in my Sovereign class heavy cruiser.

... oh, I have a single RCS Accelerator that provides +35% turning.

Just do it twice and fail and it will let you use auto pilot to do the slingshot.

Suppose to be a prompt saying the computer is set to auto bla, bla and the ship will get you where you want to go. KDF ship handling is not that great to complete this task on your own.

Dunno how people fail this mission. I ran the slingshot in the Obelisk on the first try. Also did it in the Bortasqu' (Which turns about as slow as most people's grandmas). I don't use RCS consoles either. To me, they are just something to make money on.
