Idea for new Faction: Civilian

Star trek is full of interesting characters that were not affiliated with a particular races government or military. You could create a player of any race. Breen, Orion, Bajorin, Bringloidi clone and on and on.
Now in STO "You" are the hero, the whole story revolves around your toon as the hero of the Galaxy. What I am suggesting would be an expansion not just a new season. But your Civilian would be a Starfleet drop out or an eager youth seeking a way off his or her home planet. You can run guns for some Ferengi or get a job doing salvage operations for the Mudd consortium. Or become a smuggler selling Romulan ale to the Federation. Your ships? You can start out with these:

http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Tamarian_deep_space_cruiser

This ship model was used in all the Trek shows in many different configurations. The most powerful being the Tamarians from TNG "Darmok" She was more powerful than a Galaxy class. This ship design was also used as an Escort:

http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Hekaran_starship

It also had Sci configurations:

http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Frunalian_science_vessel

(fun fact: The creators of this model used a Star Wars Star Destroyer kit for the foward hull.)

So here we have a class of ships they can use as most Governments would not allow non-commission personnel to have access to their newer starships. You gain access to new Tech my forming alliances and completing transactions with other races. Salvage. Your shipyards could be the starship graveyard on Qualor II. (TNG "Unification" ) You can be a Mercenary, Smuggler, or an artifact hunter like Picards girlfriend Vosh. But being STO we have to break it down into 3 career's. So Tac=Mercenary, Eng=Smuggler, Sci=Treasure hunter/Archaeologist. The 3 classes will begin with different story arc's as each person needs to explore the career path. The Mercenary will take jobs for the Klingon houses or the Nauscians and Orions or Jobs for section 31. Until you uncover something that takes you into the middle of the War then you can align with Fed or KDF. The same with the other 2 classes. You follow a sort arc that is separate from the other 2 classes until the plot reaches a certain point where the all 3 converge and you choose to be KDF or Fed.

Really the potential is there for a Civillian expansion. The ships are there. The 3 classes are there. The story is there just begging to be written.
Another option is instead having to choose Fed or KDF you can have both.
By forming partnerships via missions or commendation ranks or a new reputation system close to but not identical to what we have now but for just for Civillian you can get access to some KDF, FED and Romulan Ships. I think the idea has unlimited potential.

Star Trek has always been focused on the Captain and crew. So I just don't see it here in Star Trek Online. Personally, I would prefer subclasses being added to the game. Captain Picard had a subclass as Archaeologist.

Having Mercenary, Smuggler, and Treasure Hunter/Archaeologist as classes doesn't really fit. You can have a Mercenary that has a tactical or science style. In other words, they are jobs not career paths. Captain/Admiral is our Job while Science, Engineering, and Tactical are our Career paths.

Well a civilian faction is not really a new idea... In fact that was the first idea for a new faction I saw here on the forums (except for the Borg faction of cause).
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.
