Thank you. Always good to see a return "customer" :)
...I'll see what I can do about working out a Leech "sub-calc"... I'll need to figure out the formula though. Watch this thread for updates.
I did some preliminary Leech testing. With L9 in Flow Cap skill (ie 99 skill points), my weapons showed the Leech giving a -2 power drain to target, +2 power buff to myself. I added an Embassy +30 Flow Cap console and the weapon Leech stats changed to -/+2.3 pwr, adding a second Embassy +30 Flow Cap console changed Leech to -/+2.6 pwr. I'll want to do some more testing with a toon that has different skill, and with various quantity of/ranked consoles to confirm there's no diminishing returns, but preliminary tests suggest base Leech is -/+1 pwr, then you get 1% of your skill with no diminishing return. 54 skill (L3) should give you -/+1.54 (displayed as -/+1.5), 200 skill should give you -/+3, etc.

Got pointed to this to look at power questions, trying out the calculator now. Thanks for that.

Is it common for MMOs to change their mechanics so much? Skill tree, power impacts, currency availabilities. I figured somethings would be kept the same for the need of consistency, especially if there is no "instruction manual" or tech specs.

Question on it, does the efficient BO stack linearly? It shows on your calculator that each boff adds 7.5 to WCE, but I have read and operated under the assumption that it had diminishing returns.

STO was my first MMO, and I've since "dabbled" in Cryptic's Champions Online, but I really can't speak for MMOs in general. STO doesn't normally change their mechanics. They do occasionally tweak power abilities from time-to-time in an attempt to balance play, but the core mechancis don't change often.

The first time the power mechanics dramatically changed was back when the skills were revamped with the launch of Season 5 (Jan 2012). Then most recently Cryptic added the Warp Core mechancis with the Legacy of Romulus expansion (May 2013). Otherwise, they have only performed minor adjustments to a couple of skills and traits, and added new ships and devices, over the years.

I keep the Calc updated as things change, so you can check back here for a new version, as needed. And if you're curious, all changes to the Calc have been recorded on the About tab located within the sheet.
Question on it, does the efficient BO stack linearly? It shows on your calculator that each boff adds 7.5 to WCE, but I have read and operated under the assumption that it had diminishing returns.
Yup, Efficiency Traits (belonging to either BO or Captain) stack linearly. This is how the Calc represents it, and it does match game play. Where did you read otherwise?

Now there is some irregularity in the way the WCE skill affects power levels. To quote the OP: "Warp Core Efficiency only affects power levels when a subsystem is set below 75 and is most effective closer to 15."

So if you set your Auxiliary Power to 25, you'll get more bang out of your WCE skill than if you set your Aux to 50. And if your Aux were set to 80 or more, your WCE will stop helpipng your Auxiliary entirely.

This isn't Diminishing Returns, it's just the unique way in which WCE helps low power settings more than high power settings. And it helps all your subsystems that are below 75.

    hello lordhavelock,

    2 questions;

    1) Why are the results of the calculations of the power settings in parentheses and some are not? Does it depend on the type of warp core, fleet or not? Is it only those calculations that excced 125 power in a setting ( I have seen some which pass 125 and are not in parentheses ).

    2) I noticed that when I change the synergy tag under the warp core setting from W -- S to S -- W for example ( it happens to other combinations ), the donour energy amount is reduced. I read in STOwiki that the percentage of energy ( 7.5% ) that is sent from the donour power is not lost on the donour power, but is only a gain to the receiving power. Is there an error in the calculator or is there something that I have missed in the use of fleet warp cores?

thank you for your time and your generous nature,

    yours truly,

    Di'vad Retep

Power levels are normally capped at 125. When your subsystem's power gets over the cap the Calc will display the number over 125 in parentheses, while still showing you the game display of 125. Warp cores increase the cap, so you can sometimes see more than 125 and not have parens, though you will see them if you go over 130 in those cases.

Example, if you had enough buffs to give you 128 Shield Power, you'd see the Calc display (128) 125 for your Shields. If you happened to have a Field Stabilizing Warp Core, you'd see 128. If you had that core and 135 Shields, you'd see (135) 130.

The cap is intended to be a Hard Cap, meaning any amount displayed in the parens is wasted, and you can use this knowledge to reduce your inputs in that subsystem and put it somewhere else.

That being said, there are reports on the forums that the cap is actually Soft, at least for some applications (like Weapons Power), and "overcapping" to access the power over 125 is actually beneficial.

The STOwiki is correct, there is no lost power from the donor in a Synergy tag. I checked the Calc, I'm not seeing any loss of power when using Synergy tags, only a buff in the target subsystem as should be expected. Can you post a screenshot of what you're seeing, please?

I tried copy paste to no avail, and I realise that something else is required to add the images, perhaps you could explain to me how to do it.

Take a screen shot of the Calc showing the bug, save the picture on your hard drive. Upload the picture to an online hosting service (there are many, I happen to like imgur, since you don't need to make an account). Post the link to the picture in this thread.

    hello once more,

I took a look this weekend at the calculator and made some tests using warp cores, but this time without the synergy tag added...

and low and behold, what I thought was a loss of power to the donour power was actually the proper value. In other words, when I added the synergy tag (w - s) it would climg to 124, then when I would switch the tag for the inverse (s - w) it would revert to 119, which was the amount displayed without the tag.

    thank you again,

Last night I did some power testing. I played around with Plasmonic Leech just to see how it worked "in reality" (specifically to find out how many stacks it could achieve) and also tried to determine what, if any, benefit there was to "overcapping" my weapons power. Here are the results of that testing:

When I download the zip file, what I get is a zip file that is 1.5 kb and is, apparently, empty. Winzip won't open it, and neither will 7-zip.

Strange. I tested it (as I always do) when I originally posted the update and it worked fine for me. I just now clicked on the link in the OP and I received an 81k zip file that contained the updated sheet.

Please try again. If it still fails, do please provide additional information: What browser are you using, are you right-clicking on the download link and selecting Save As... ? or how are you downloading?

Is anyone able to successfully download the zip/Calc update besides me?

There are many new pieces of equipment (Consoles, Sets, Warp Cores, etc.) that are being released tomorrow with Season 8. Also, there are two new Voth ships from the Voth Lockbox and Lobi store coming tomorrow.

I will try to get those added to the Calc as soon as I can. If anyone can help me find all the stats for the new gear (I got the Voth ship stats), I would appreciate it.

Also, I haven't seen any posts on the last update... Neoatticus were you able to download the Calc? Has anyone successfully downloaded version 8.3.16?

I have to say, I do not usually look into the forums. But today while waiting for the most recent patch I did. And a good thing I did too! I have been playing STO for 3+ years now and have only recently tried PvP... Needless to say I keep getting my backside handed to me on a GPL platter... However having read this thread and the thread by Fuzun (directing me here, and to the updated calculator) I do believe that my PvP game will improve. Thanks a bunch for the time and effort everyone has put out to create this very useful tool! I WILL be posting links to this thread for my fleet (15th Phoenix Guard) to use.

    Thanks again!

    You're welcome.

Not at this time. With rare exception, most Fleet ships have the same power settings as their non-fleet counterparts. Those that have different configurations (like some of the Fleet Romulan ships) are listed, but in the interested of keeping the always growing ship lists as small as possible, I've not included all the others, like your Fleet Advanced Escort.

There hasn't seemed to be any demand for it either.

What do you people think? Should I add the Fleet ships or no?

P.S. I know I'm due to put out a Season 8 version of the Calc that includes the Dyson gear and the new ships (Voths, Breen Plesh, and new KDF Mogh). It's not forgotten, just delayed. I'll probably wait and put it out with the Year 04 S8.5 Release (so I can add those new ships, too).

Most of the time when I'm using his, it's from my phone, so I appreciate not having to swipe through a lot of redundant entries, so if it's up for a vote, I vote against duplicates that have the same stats. That said, it's your ball, hoss, so do what feels right to you.

I eagerly await the 8/8.5 update. I forget if I've said this before, but thanks a ton for this labor of love.

im really dissapointed that you choose to not support opensouce excel programms anymore. this will force me and several others im sure, to give up on this calculator. unfortunately the very important part of custom-energy-level calculation is broken. noone plays their ship with 100,25,25,50 anymore since you can go down to 15. now i cannot test powerlevels to get round numbers anymore at all.

i can understand that you dont want to debugg two programms, but maybe you could consider switching to the opensource variant, nearly everyone is using?! ^^ i mean i cannot afford MSexcel at any point, and why should i if a free2use variant is out there?

maybe someone can tell me a source of a free msexcel (excelviewer from ms wont work, i cannot modify stats in it)variant or can tell me if going down to OO prior 4 will fix this issues?

Thanks for the vote and kind words Gen. The current plan (such as there is), would be to not add redundant ships.

I'm sorry the update hasn't come out. I've just been too busy with rl/work. I haven't forgotten though.

I never really chose to support OS Excel programs, they just happened to support me. With the release of OO v4 they stopped supporting what I release. :P

I haven't had time lately to support my own project in Excel, much less try to figure out why the Calc got broke in OO v4. Also, I'll quote this bit from the FAQ (post 2):
    FAQ

    * What's up with Open Office?
...I'm sorry, but this isn't a paying gig for me, it's only a hobby, and I've no interest in debugging another program. ...if someone else champion's OO v4, interacts with their community/forums to develop a fix, and/or can provide me with an easy few steps to integrate, I'll do what I can. Otherwise, OO v4 will remain officially unsupported.

So there you go David Eight. Feel free to champion OO... Take the Calc to the OO community/forums and work to get a solution there...

btw i found out that going back to older oo will solve the problems, so everything is fine for now, i hope your newer calcs will not get unsupported by oo3.4 since they are written with newer msexels while still not not working with oo4+, that would be bad then.
maybe its a problem with oo4 in the end. i cannot imagine what may break exactly 2 parts of a calc, and leaves everything else totally fine.

and i just wanted to express my disappointment if i loose this calc right half a year after i found it. it saved me a lot of money (eg zen for unecessary respeccs). it wasnt directed to you in person, i expressed my dissapointment, though knowing your way for decisions, cause, its still dissapointing for me ;-)

but for now everything is fince cause going down to oo3.4 solved the problem.
