Ultimate Jewelcrafting and Combining Guide

Hai there. :D Jus' a little guide I decided to make one day while combining shards. The art of doing this requires skill...precision...experience...and craploads of coinage. >___>

Please note that this guide is not made to suggest that the only way you can make higher shards is by combining from scratch. This is made simply out of curiosity to find out what the cost of combining is. Granted no one in their right mind would ever make a Diamond of Dragon starting with shabbies, but it's fun to have the information. Seperate guides can also be made about the various methods of obtaining shards (especially combining through tokens, which involves and almost completely different price range and spectrum) but this guide is meant to cover that of starting from low grade gems.

What is combining, and what can I do with the shards I make?

When you have a shard, let's say a shabby citrine shard, and you want to imbue it into your armour to get more hp, but you want more than a measley +5 hp. So you go to the Jewelcraftsman (found in West Archosaur, as well as some other major cities) and choose to combine. And there you have it, a rough citrine shard. Once you've got the type of shard or gem you want, head over to any Blacksmith to imbue into a weapon, or any Tailor to imbue into armour, and select Imbue Soulgem. And BAM awesome gear!

How do I find shards to combine?

There are multiple ways of earning, buying and finding shards:

1. Click on the Boutique icon or open the Boutique by clicking the yellow "sun" icon below your mini-map, or pressing O > Craft > Celestone Box, for 25 you might get an Average Gem.
2. Open the Boutique > Box/Egg > Celestone Box.
3. Some monsters may drop shards. Anywhere from shabby to flawless, and even past that.
4. Any Merchant will have Shabby Shards in the Gems section for a cheap price.
5. Other players! One of the best ways to get good shards is to buy from catshops.
6. You can already buy an Average Shard for 60k from the Jewelcraftsman by selecting Goods when you talk to him.
7. If you have Tokens, talk to a Boutique Agent to make Flawless Shards. 9-14 Perfect Token of Luck are required per shard. You can also make Perfect Shards for 1-2 Perfect Token of Best Luck.
8. Quests! Some quests will give anywhere from Blemished to Average Shards as a reward when you complete them.
9. The Auction House is a magic place with more than enough shards to choose from. If you don't see any right away, be sure to use the filter by clicking Filter > Gems > [type of gem: garnet, sapphire, amber, etc]

How do I combine shards?

First, talk to any Jewelcraftsman and select combine. Then, select which type of gem you want to make. You'll need 3 of each to make the next one in line for the first few options. (Example: To make a rough, you'll need 3 shabby shards. To make a blemished, you'll need 3 rough shards, and so on, although the amount of shards needed increases as you go on.)

Where is the Jewelcrafstman?

Due to much harrassment, here's a list of locations for Jewelcrafstmen in the main cities. Don't forget you can also find them by clicking the Coordinates Assistant (the little green arrow) in the top right corner of the page, by the map.

Additional info: Like the Diamond of Tiger, these increase your defense level by one when imbued into a weapon or gear.

Jade of Steady Defense
Shard needed: 3 Diamond of Dragon

Level requirement to imbue: 13 or higher
Catshop price: 25,000,000+
Additional info: Same as the Diamond of Dragon. Increases your defense level by two when
imbued into a weapon or other gear.

For those of you that are too lazy to browse catshops, quest, can't afford the Boutique, and wish to buy from the Merchant, here is a list of the amounts of Shabby Shards needed to make each higher level shard:

Rough: 3
Blemished: 9
Common: 27
Average: 108
Beautiful: 432
Flawless: 1,728
Immaculate: 8,640
Perfect: 43,000
Imcomparable: 216,000
Gem: 1,296,000
Stone: 7,776,000
Tiger: 46,632,000
Dragon: 139,896,000
Jade: 419,688,000

When Combining or Looking for Shards to Combine
It's important to remember that there's always people selling shards and gems, so don't forget to check the catshops around you if you don't want to buy 108 shabbies to make an Average shard. Also keep in mind that prices vary depending on the seller, so if you see and Average for 90k, don't give up; keep looking. You might just save money by buying from other players over combining by yourself.

And there you have it; the complete guide to imbuing and combining soulgems! Because this is my first forum post, I'd appreciate any feedback on how I can improve this guide, or any errors I made in the process. Any questions are also appreciated! ^^ Also, because the maximum amount of coin anyone can have in their inventory is 200million I'm unsure how anyone could make or buy the level 12 stones. :X Of course, catshop prices are usually lower than the actual value of the object (as seen in the Flawless and Immaculate shards.)

Thanks for reading b:victory (Where are the monkey smilies on this? DX)

Catshop v NPC : Buying Shards
It's understandable that someone wouldn't want to spend 22,896,000 coin on 43,000 shabby shards to make a perfect shard. And that's only if their equipment has one socket. O___O So what do you do? You browse the catshops and auction house to see if there are any of the kind you want for sale. Of course, that can take some time. So below I've taken actual catshop and auction house prices (from the Harshlands server. assume the prices will be relatively similar on other servers) and compared them with NPC prices.

Note: This is based on the assumption that Auction House prices will be relatively similar to those of catshops.

    Key:
    Shabby
Base price: the cost to combine from scratch using shabbies
Catshop price 1-10: the various prices that other players sell a specific shard at
You Lose/Save: the amount of coins lost or saved by buying from catshop compared to combining from scratch
NPC Buy/Sell price: the prices NPCs sell various shards at
You Lose/Save: the amount of coins lost or saved by buying from NPCs
The Verdict: the cheapest way to buy the shard

    Rough
    Base price: 1,447
    Catshop price 1: 2,000
    You Lose: 553
    Catshop price 2: 2,500
    You lose: 1,053
    Catshop price 3: 1,800
    You lose: 353
    NPC price: N/A
The Verdict: Combine, you're almost always losing small amounts of coin by buying from catshop.

    Blemished
    Base price: 4,770
    Catshop price 1: 5,000
    You Lose: 230
    Catshop price 2: 4,850
    You Lose: 80
    Catshop price 3: 4,500
    You Save: 270
    NPC price: N/A
The Verdict: Unless someone is selling for under the base price, you're better off combining.

A really good guide for anybody who's wondering about the cost of combining in particular, although you kind of threw this into the wrong section.

If you want to take this guide a step further, you might want to include the average buy/sell price of each stage of shard. You could then do a nice comparison on how much money you save by merely buying, say for example, five perfect shards from other players and combining those, rather then starting right from stage one.
Just a small suggestion to throw out there.

Still, good guide. People who like knowing the economy behind what they do would appreciate this.

Holy ****, a reply this fast? Thanks so much for the advice! It'd take me some time to figure out the sell/buy prices and comparisons, etc, but I'll work it out once I finish this second half of the guide. What section should I put this in? :X First time posting as you know lol, so I'm kind of unfamiliar with the sections.

I'm very OCD about what I do, so I appreciate your feedback. ^^ Thanks again.

Don't worry about reposting this, one of your local friendly moderators will move it to the right section for you when they see it. ^^ (Or you could always PM one in advance to save them a small search.)

Finding average prices can be a bit of a niggle, I agree, and if I actively played on Harshlands at all I'd offer to help you out, given how server to server prices vary. Or I suppose I could sit on Dreamweaver and take our average there and PM you with that so you could have a couple of other bits of information to use without digging it all up yourself, if you'd like. Not that I am a number cruncher any more. >.> Calculators FTW!

Still, yush. Nicely colour coded guide as well, but I'm a sucker for things that use colours. Keeps my attention on it. |D

    2. world bosses - any perfect shards
    3. gamma - any immaculates
    4. fc chest - any flawless
    5. nien beast event prize - immaculates and flawless
    6. use tokens to make flawless shards
    .. etc etc

Actually, that's a point. It'd be interesting to see the prices of the two diamonds and the jade of steady defence (as well as potentially horrifying.)

I'm gonna get on PMing a Mod soon, and from what I've seen, the prices in HL don't seem too far off from where they should be. Loool I did all the math to figure out the prices by hand. ._. It's too bad I only know lattice too. Three pieces of paper. And I agree on the colour coating. I couldn't resist calling sapphires blue and garnets red. b:pleased

I completely agree. >__< I realized my mistake there after I posted it. But it's been fixed now, (as you might see) along with the costs of the shards and gems following. Still, thanks for pointing it out, 'cause if I didn't see before I'd be in big doo-doo.

I've searched all over this forum for NPC location of lvl 4 jewelcraftsman, I 've even used search and read through countless pages.
this game is full of bullchit back and forth ****.

Ok I am in city of plume learning my skills, from lvl 1 to lvl 10. in that time I can never find that shard set I need to combine. then I get introduced to Archasaur through a quest. now we jump from lvl 1 JC to Lvl 5.
    but what about in between.
we run over to the damn merchant on the other side of town, who in my frigging opinion should have been standing right next to the Jewelcrafter who needs his chit to work.
I mean a tire store is usually near other mechanic shops.
the auto parts stores ain't in down town, and the mechanic shops out in the desert. come on PWI get your head out of your asses. (this is exactly what i mean when i say "make the game fun, before u ask me for a donation".)

so anyway I read this great guide on combining gems, great job, but where the hell is blemish shard seller who should be in city of plume and where the hell is all the other ****'s that come from 2-4??????
why don't you have that in your guide?????

It didn't include what shard grade can be imbude with your equipment's level (which is what I was looking for). However, "Rated's Guide to NPC Sharding!!!!!" fills that in,

IMO BLUE is not a color that should be allowed in a forum with a dark background like this. Makes it utterly impossible to read.

You should consider replacing blue with DeepSky Blue or Cyan. Even RoyalBlue is easier to read but is borderline.

Once you've got the type of shard or gem you want, head over to any Blacksmith to imbue into a weapon, or any Tailor to imbue into armour, and select Imbue Soulgem.

Actually, the tailors and blacksmiths aren't picky; either one will imbue soulgems into either weapons or armor.

Meh not sure if mentioned but, may want to add buying perfect tokens for grade 7 Gem might save you money and time. 140-80k to 480k seems better right?

    bottom line.
you rarely find a citrine shard above beautiful for sale in cat shop.
they are more expensive in AH.

right now sancyuary sells for 1M+ for Immaculate citrine which from shabby to Immaculate would be about 114, 480, 000 coin to make one.
but if you start with buying a flawless for tokens it is about 1.2 mil
and if you start with an average at 60.K and multiply. wow you just get lost in it all.
if the pricing index of PWI was proper in the first place, then a guy could simply take the time to combine everything and sell for even value. an immaculate would sell for 114M+ and the game would be simpler and easier to consider as enjoyable.

thank those worldly God's that right now I can buy two for 100+ times less than they cost to combine.
do not combine unless you have a crazy stone cat shop in archasaur, or the likes.
do not buy from PWB unless tokens are under 13500 a piece.
where to get tokens? from greedy cat shops or packs for gold because 99.999999999999999% of the time that is exactly what your going to get.

citrine +50 HP is rare find anywhere except AH. but if your looking for a beautiful. there is one a day on the ah/
do combine average shards for 60K each from Jewelssmith, that's 240,000 K for one home made Beautiful.

but if you want to wait it out, you can get five in a week on AH for about 110,000 to 180,000 each.
but then if you made it yourself you'd probably be 10 lvls higher a week from now.

That's all very true. Prices vary from server to server, and since these were based off of only one server, it's hard to say this is completely accurate. You're right about all the tokens and cash shop info, but this guide is focused more on those who want to combine lower shards to sell for crazy stone, and simply to answer questions to curious minds who wondered how many shabbies it takes to make a Diamond of Tiger. I've tried to make this guide as thorough as I can, and there's still some work to do, but I appreciate your input. It's also got some useful info I might wanna put in the guide later. :]

Actually, that's a point. It'd be interesting to see the prices of the two diamonds and the jade of steady defence (as well as potentially horrifying.)

OK I put it together little different and shorter but it's a Very Good Reference.

NOW, I want to Know What a Diamond of Dragon (Attack Level +1),
a Diamond of Dragon (Defense Level +1)
and a Jade of Steady Defense (Defense Level +2)
Actually gives in the Attack Level or the Defense Level?

In all the other stones a number value is given which is standard with the other stones,
for example a Drakeflame Stone gives:
    To Weapon: Physical Attack +100
    To Armor: Physical Defense +170
So what comparative value is Attack Level +1 and Defense Level +2 ?

My guess is about +1000 in each of those values but does it vary according to equipment?
Let me know what values you find when equipping these shards.

Hai there. :D Jus' a little guide I decided to make one day while combining shards. The art of doing this requires skill...precision...experience...and craploads of coinage. >___>

    Diamond of Tiger
Shard needed to make: 6 Drakeflame Stone
    Cost of shards: 4,881,480,000 each
    Cost of final result: 24,727,680,000
Level requirement to imbue: 12 or better
    Catshop price: 20,000,000+
Additional info: This does not increase physical or magic damage, defense, hp/mp levels, or accuracy/evasion. The benefit is that, if added to armour or a weapon, your attack level increases by one.

    Diamond of Dragon
Shard needed to make: 3 Diamond of Tiger
    Cost of shards: 29,288,880,000
    Cost of final result: 74,183,040,000
Level requirement to imbue: 12 or better
    Catshop price: 20,000,000+
Additional info: Like the Diamond of Tiger, these increase your defense level by one when imbued into a weapon or gear.

    Jade of Steady Defense
Shard needed: 3 Diamond of Dragon
    Cost of shards: 87,866,640,000
Cost of final result: 222,549,120,000 (let's just be glad it didn't make it into the trillions)
Level requirement to imbue: 13 or higher
    Catshop price: 25,000,000+
Additional info: Same as the Diamond of Dragon. Increases your defense level by two when
imbued into a weapon or other gear.

I want to know just what LEVEL 1 Defense, LEVEL 1 Attack means?
They are undefined values. All the other stones give a number value like +100 so how can you figure what LEVEL 1 compared value is? Is it "+1000 Attack", "+500 Attack" or does it have other stat value effects?
All I know is that it is top of the line, but I don't know what it really adds to the equipment when you imbule it. Looking at the Equipment build Calculator leads me to believe these items are not all as great as they appear to be.
If anyone can figure this out let me know.

This information about Jewel Crafting is nice but I believe it is better served if put in the PW WIKI with like game guide information.

Also it was hard for me to find out what exactly was meant by "LEVEL 1 ATTACK" and "LEVEL 1 or 2 DEFENSE".
    I finally had someone tell me that Level 1 = 1%, Level 2 = 2%

This seems to make more sense than a vague value like "Attack Level 1"

In that light it is more clear to me how to use a Diamond of Tiger, a Diamond of Dragon or a Jade of Steady Defense.

Now consider Jone Blessing, with an Attack Level +30 is actually adding 30% of your existing Attack Level to your stats.

If this information is incorrect please let me know.
