How many Toons can be in the same SH instance?

As the title says, is there a cap on how many can be in one SH instance at the same time? This seems to be an issue with alliances as we have had multiple "weird" things happen to some the the SH instances, such as duplicate instances (with same name), people trying to get into another guild in the Alliance's SH, and basically falling off the the earth.

Stronghold instances max out at 40 players. This is a hard cap and there is no way around it. Bad things happen if you try (such as falling off the earth).

Generally, what happen is the game spins up a second instance of that guild's stronghold map. It tries to use the first one, but if it's full it places people in the second one. You can use the Find People tab under the Social screen (hit O) to see what instance you're in and who else is there with you.
