How many buffs at one time

Hi, thank you for your time.
I was told that I should not use more than one buff at a time. That the last one was the only one that is recognized. So if I put down 3 elixirs (the ones you get from celestial prayers) that only one will actually work. Is this true?.? I know that the food buffs you can only use one at a time, but can you not use one of those and an elixir and say a regeneration pot too?
Please if this is true I do not want to waste money, never mind time collecting these all.

The elixirs stack, and you can use one of each of the categories of single buffs, so one food, one standard potion, etc. You can see whether a potion is in effect in your buff tray.

Regen potions are treated like healing potions, and shouldn't override your crit potion (or whatever).
