So it would actually inspire people to really go out there and take hits from enemies these are some ideas.

Berserker (Defiance Advantage): When struck you generate energy. Brings back the energy gain when struck on hit. However you cannot gain energy from Energy Unlocks or Toggles anymore.
Accelerated Regeneration (Regeneration Advantage): You have a 20% chance when struck by an attack to regain 15% of health loss from that attack as a heal over time.
Reactive Shock (Invulnerability Advantage): When struck you return 10% of the damage back as crushing damage. So someone with Invulnerability actually wants to get into the thick of things to do more damage than others.
Kinetic Reverberation (Personal Force Field Advantage): You have a 20% chance when struck by an attack to send out a shockwave to stun the foe that hit you.

They're not gonna revert the Defiance change. It's time to start thinking about Con primary if you want energy from taking hits while not blocking. Also that Invulnerability one already exists as a device, and Regen already makes you heal more when you take more damage. I don't see anyone nerfing their own PFF even further just so they can get a rng stun that makes dog walking impossible and isn't useful against the enemies that are gonna be slamming your shield the hardest, and these definitely wouldn't be 1-pt advantages which is probably the nail in the coffin for all of them... gimp my damage mitigation on my tank? No thanks!

The game already has mechanics in place to motivate tanks to draw aggro though, it's one of the best ways they can refill their energy ( blocking a bunch of hits ) and an easy way to get score at cosmics ( if they can block good ) and in some content they have to do it if they want to see any measure of success ( TA ). If a tank isn't wading in and aggroing everything in sight, it's probably because they're low level or poorly geared and they know that'll end in disaster.

If people want to tank they take the hits. No one needs inspiration for that. Other than being a very thinly veiled cry to get defiance returned back to previous state of giving energy, which it doesn't need especially with the block changes now, it sounds like you need to learn how to better organize your energy in general. That or you need to explore outside of your comfort zone instead of sticking to the atypical tried and true, or at leas the perceived one. Specs and mods would be a good place to start.
