Dual Pistols + Unarmed Build

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for a build that marries dual pistols and unarmed martial arts, preferably with the Night Warrior passive but if other passives are optimal then that's fine. It's for a spy build. Thanks in advance!

    Here is my take.
I use the Thunder Kick to reduce Crush resistance and Bullet Ballet/Dragon Uppercut for ST and Bullet hail for some AOE and Damage Shield.

I know you mentioned Night Warrior, so you can swap out passives. (Or maybe I might swap out passive).

I use Unstoppable for damage boost and some KB resistance and damage reduction.

I wonder if NW Damage boost / enemy damage resist debuff / Charge speed boost is worth it. (Stealth and shadow strike might fit concept also)

Might also remove 2 ranks from Athletics and get rank 2 Dragon Uppercut.

    Hi everyone,

I've had time to review these builds and while both play well, it doesn't feel like my character. There are some aspects from both that I like + new ideas I wanted advice on. I still very much want to keep the unarmed martial arts/dual pistols theme, and I'm willing to sacrifice optimal DPS for theme. I still would very much like to keep the build survivable and viable, though.

First, I don't really like bullet hail and burst shot. The former because of its visuals, and the latter because it feels clunky to use. I prefer two gun mojo. What I really do like is bullet ballet. It's perfect for the theme. To be honest, I'm struggling with the ratio of martial arts attacks with dual pistols attacks. Thematically, I like the idea of being mainly martial arts, with dual pistol powers sprinkled in (e.g. bullet ballet for combos, holdout shot for healing and lead tempest for ranged aoe). I also would prefer a righteous fists energy builder.

Secondly, I was considering how viable it is to opt for a defensive passive/toggle form. This is purely thematic, as I wanted something to represent the spy suit's defensive capabilities. Visually, inertial dampening field is perfect but I'm not sure if that's viable. Something like personal force field that says the spy suit is shielded. So ideally, I'd like to try either one of those powers into the mix (or any appropriate/better replacements). I think this is where I'd have to sacrifice optimal damage.

Regards to night warrior, I don't feel like stealth is that important to me thematically, so I'm willing to replace that.

It's a tall order, and I appreciate any input on this. It's not the most synergised build, but to be honest, as long as its viable and can survive end game content/events, I'd be happy! Thank you!

The energy builder isn't too important, as you shouldn't be using it much (or at all) outside of early leveling, and even then I may get a ranged end builder if you plan on having any ranged attacks anyways. I'd also pass on IDF, since it doesn't scale that well and there's a large opportunity cost of not getting the dmg and energy gains from a normal dps toggle/form. PFF is also not really a great passive, and the hybrid-dps route will lower your base dps a good deal. That said, you can still work around PFF just fine (esp as a non-tank), if you don't mind doing lower dmg. I prob wouldn't bring a lower-dps hybrid to cosmics where there's stricter dps checks, but that can also depend on how the other players are faring.

Also, keep in mind that NW is a good dps passive even w/o using Sneak at all. If you don't like stealth for the concept, then you can simply ignore or not hotkey Sneak and Shadow Strike and still do just fine w/ R3 NW.

Bullet Ballet + Holdout + LT is a pretty solid foundation, though, so we can def work those in. You'd still really want the Armor Piercing debuff and Furious for Bullet Ballet, which I why I'd still keep Burst Shot in there (you only have to tap it for AP, and even then the anim would be so quick that you'd hardly notice it in between spamming BB). There's other ways to get the AP debuff- most convenient would be the Frag Grenade w/ adv, but I dunno if that's thematic enough for you.

The open power slots can be for w/e ya want.

Keep in mind, though, that if you are using BB and LT as your main attacks then it'll mostly be a Muni build w/ some MA sprinkled in, and not the other way around. However, gun katas can blend well w/ CO's MA, so in terms of theme it doesn't really matter too much that most of your attacks are in Muni, imo.

If you want a bit of the force field theme, but still taking a higher-dps route, then you could first change the block enhancer to Force Shield, so you at least have that visual when you block. Then you can go back to the Melee dps role and use something like NW as the slotted passive (instead of PFF). You'd be quite squishier too then, so it's just a trade-off that you have to decide for yourself.

    Hey Flow,

Thanks for the input. I really like your build, but want to tweak it to your suggestions. First, if PFF isn't good for damage, I won't fight it. I'd like to keep this build, and I have some ideas for the last two empty power slots.

In terms of roles, if Bullet Ballet is my main attack, should I be in the melee, ranged or hybrid role?

I'd like to keep R3 NW instead of PFF, use a Force block and for the last two powers, I was thinking of using Bionic Shielding (for thematic purposes and extra healing) and the most appropriate active offense (Lock n Load/Imbue/Intensity). If this is a good idea, I was wondering how the build would change in terms of what stats to pick and which spec tree to go down in. If I could add these things to the build, it'd be perfect!

    Thanks again Flow.

Well, PFF is a defensive passive, so it doesn't offer any direct dmg bonuses. It can be fine for hyrbid-dps that want the extra shield on top of their health to pillow AoE hits, though it's not a replacement for blocking against the hard-hitting stuff.

If BBallet is our main attack, then you'd want to be in the Melee dps role to optimize its dmg, since the entire combo is melee-flagged.

As for switching to NW and Force Shield, and adding Bionic Shielding- it sounds fine. Bionic Shielding isn't as useful w/ Conviction around for self-healing, but you can still throw it on yourself (and allies, unlike w/ Conviction) for the extra survival boost when taking dmg (it's a bit costly, so I wouldn't use it too frequently- you're still a dps'er and not a healer, at the end of the day). This looks perfect! I think with Bionic Shielding it's just about finding a forgiving, thematic power that provides some defense because I want it to feel like the suit has some defensive mechanisms in it. Thanks again, Flow!
