I just remembered that in addition to the "Year of H.ell" reference, Admiral Quinn says, "D.amn!" in "Surface Tension." (Though that may be the only time a character swears in-game.) While there's no need to fill a post with swearing, it seems like those two words have been ruled in by canon.
-
Does that mean that some of the other language not in need of censoring can be addressed? I think we've got a pretty good list here so far...and as a further point of reference, I think we had the balance about right on the old forum (except for the whole Warcraft thing, which made not sense).
-
Except the whole thing was that I wasn't swearing and no one in the US would even think it. ;)
-
I thought the new rules at the top of the forum (blue box) meant that we are all under STO's rules now no matter where on the forums we were? Or maybe I need to read that thing again...
-
Well, that's "good" to know the system will do that. I selected a...representative sample. I figure when someone's having a meltdown, their post history is easily accessible. :/

Question: I have seen comments in this and other threads that the Flag queue is not actually visible to mods. Is that true? If it is, what's the procedure, to PM moderators or try to file an ARC ticket now that that category doesn't exist anymore? On the STO forum PM'ing mods was technically not allowed but I'm not sure…
-
In the U.S. it means nothing but the part of a door used to open it. IMO it can safely be removed from the profanity filter and mods can use their judgment as to the meaning and context.
-
Wow. This REALLY needs to be addressed. We just had the word knob -- k.n.o.b--censored in a fanfic while describing the act of opening a door. That is way, way over the top... O_O
-
We were supposed to have one. They broke it with the forced ARC redirect.

I know, I was totally thinking Minions there. "Ba-na-na?" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HEvHszfHenw
-
There is at least one spoof avatar of it out there, though. @flyingfinn, for instance, has been BANANAED. ;)
-
They broke it with the forced redirect to ARC. The only way to fix that is to use AdBlock with the filter nrglg posted.
-
They're banned. Whenever you see that avatar, that means that person won't be coming back.
-
Glad it worked! I didn't even notice the "24 hits" in the picture. Guess that screenshot was worth something after all! :)

OK, I went to Filter Preferences in AdBlock Plus and created a new filter group to make it easier for me to see where I was adding custom stuff. Then in the box on the right, I pasted the filter nrglg provided. http://s1300.photobucket.com/user/NerysGhemor/media/Custom%20Filter_zpsieiyjbnx.png.html After I pasted that in,…

I may have gotten it to work. I won't say for sure until I've seen it work for several pages, but let me know if you need me to send a screenshot of what I did. Of course I'm running Win 8.1, so I can't say if that would make any difference...
-
Yeah, I've had that problem as well. I think the redirects as a whole need to be addressed, since as mentioned above, the forced ARC redirect while IN the forums breaks several features. Could those be addressed together?
-
Yeah, I was wondering the same thing when I saw that post. I was thinking it was all fluorescent light/LED light, to include all computer, phone, and tablet screens. Which, BTW, will also play havoc with your sleeping patterns.
-
Seconded. That is NOT cool. Undo immediately.
-
Oh my goodness, please, no to that blue theme. I think we are fine with what we have, or a fine-tuned variant of it.
-
I've never understood what purpose this serves. Then again I also haven't figured out what real purpose Facebook and Twitter serve, either, other than to air private business and tell people what you had for lunch today. It definitely is, and should I try to go back and edit my fanfics it could be a lot of trouble. :(
-
So long as that's just a choice, and not imposed on everybody. I much prefer dark themes I can only imagine the trouble that would be caused by temporary measures like offended posters inserting #banhammernow into the thread in question, to create an easy, searchable tag for trouble...I entertained that thought for all of…

That's what I would think. I don't imagine the forum is set up to autodetect the timezone any passing computer is set to; it relies on your profile information instead. I think that's how the majority of forums operate. So long as that's just a choice, and not imposed on everybody. I much prefer dark themes, myself...…
